Dear reader - Steem has been renamed to Hive since May 2020. My content therefore has moved with me to Hive, and I hope to see you there: peakd.com/@soyrosa.

Yea, it is quite easy to game the native reputation system. May I know what is the Steem-UA score of your alternative account?

Posted using Partiko Android

LOL, I never even looked it up! But it's 1.429 versus 4.917 for my 'real' account :-)

Haha.. at least Steem-UA is working. It proves the point on why we need decentralized development

Thank god for this blog i am a 59 while I blog My ass of and i know some pleasure once a week bloggers with a 62 or 64 ok that staines,
YES staines!

Everyone knows you rock @brittandjosie! Who likes numbers anyway :D

I always wonder why people do care about their reputation in the first place. I mean what can one do with it, other than not being flagged by a lower account?

I think it’s just a steemit principle that is generally valued as an indicator for dedication to the platform and community efforts

It's just a very 'human' thing: if something is there we need to have the biggest/best/highest of it. Even if you and your friend get a piece of cake at a café for free but you would get a smaller one you would still notice and feel like you've been cheated. So yeah. Removing the REP number would be the only way to let people stop caring.

Upping the rep has proven difficult for sure, I feel like I’m in the same boat. A lot of my votes don’t even come from manual curators because content gets hidden so easily around here. Most often times, Steemmarket helps me keep my peace of mind ... Steem on @brittandjosie

Posted using Partiko iOS

yeah rep is meh lol the important thing for me is the relationships and engagement with other steemians.

i don’t put much weight on the ‘rep’ straight up. but a nice little verified button would be slick. i’m all for those kind of carrot sticks lol

Posted using Partiko iOS

Ohhh YES, carrot sticks are GOOD! Maybe the 'on/off' is not enough, you either have the sticker or you don't, but well, this system doesn't work either.

Agreed! A verified sticker or even a proper activity level; ie level 100 for interaction, would be great, and fun! Kind of like the steem rewards from the steem leaderboard (trophies?) we get on our comments, but reflected on our profile

Ohhh - yes, an engagement sort of score would be even better! I think @abh12345 would love that :D

Its pretty obvious that the only driver of rep is payout. Doesn't matter how much effort and time you spend engaging and supporting others, that not reflected on your 'name'. And that's such a shame.

I've seen some billy no mates try to jump into bed with projects that have big delegations so they can live off big juicy upvotes just by writing about the projects all the time. Their rep grows very quick, but as soon as they write their own content not related to those projects they get practically no upvotes. That is so sad.

And just to be clear, I'm not referring to @soyrosa as that's one of the most creative and interesting account I follow. Many aren't.

End of rant.

Hehe - yes, the big juicy accounts are the 'whales' everyone tries to lure into voting for their posts... I don't even mind people using an app that can reward them for their work, it's smart, but you can see who is genuinely enjoying the interaction and who is 'just' chasing the upvotes.

And thanks:

Appreciated <3

It's an interesting observation...and caught me in a strange mood..

My take on it has always been Steem benefits unproportionately go up the higher the stakeholder. Getting those upvote by the big investor, appeases the big investor. To me it's more the gearing towards big investors has always been wrong. Smaller investors should actually get more smaller benefits and the big investors should benefit sheerly through the value of steem going up as a result of the take up. But yeah too many people view this as if it's a stocks and shares type deal - big investors get, big glory or why would they invest. MY response to that is who cares - if the wealth was spread more everyone would own more of the product and we wouldnt see massive sell off's by people owning all the steem...but shit i'm no economist.

Thanks for sharing this post.

Well, the 'real' problem is not even 'big investors', because they deserve the respect and some perks, they took a big risk spending so much money on this asset. Which doesn't mean I think they deserve proportionally more than people who spend 'less' money or no money and mostly time by the way, I just mean that 'bigger accounts' in terms of SP didn't get there passively.

The 'bigger' problem I didn't mention in my post (because @steevc had it all covered already) is people getting a 'fake REP' because they bought votes, so basically grow their REP themselves instead of through the community. So what is the value of the REP number if it can be bought?

Yeah agree with you on the fake REP part (is that broken REP system a symptom though of the larger issue?) - not sure I'm convinced on the big investor part. Many bought in early when the coins were worth $0.06 and enjoyed a ride on the gravy train since and sold hard in recent times driving the price low. You are right though I shouldn't paint all with the same brush, there are some big investors that came later that tried to the right thing, and yeah are deserving. What I find is exciting is now that the tech is more understood and the 'bad investors'have sold and the price is good - what an exciting time for those of us with less money to get involved and get a greater stake...and who knows even make this whole thing work :)

That's it :D They were 'lucky' in a way to get in at 6 cents, but also, you never know if a count goes up, so even at those prices and with almost no development/cool dApps yet, it's still a risk and they took it.

If they sell it of now they just will facepalm themselves later. In the meanwhile 'we the believers' have a change to grow our accounts and I'm actually super happy about that. The people active today are very very very probably really believing in the future of Steem because no-one currently is here to earn to pay rent or go on a holiday ;-)

Cheers @lordnigel!

Yeah, the reputation numbers is (mostly) a metric for the lifetime earnings of an account. Every upvote from an account with a reputation >= 25 increases your reputation, and the increase depends on the value/SP (actually the rshares) of that vote. The higher the vote value, the more reputation points you gain. A couple of larger utopian/dtube/bid-bot/... votes can significantly boost the reputation number, completely independent of the number of posts/comments/votes the account has done/received.

Indeed - that's why it's 'broken' - if all these votes were organic it's fine, but many of these votes can be bought. If I had posted all my translations on this account I would have lost some followers probably but be already in the 70 REP...

Thanks for the post @soyrosa/@altrosa 😉 we did notice that our time in rep 59 went up quite quickly in a short space of time as a few DTube votes (no matter the size) pushed our rep up. Two weeks' ago we were on a low 58 rep score and potentially by the end today or at least week, we could be at 60. Not that the rep score matters too much for us, but interesting to see how yours exceeded normality.

Posted using Partiko Android

Ohhhh yes, DTube is a great way to get your REP to grow as well! I don't mind that, it's good as long as you work for the score and not 'buy' the score through bidbot votes like some do... Enjoy your DTube experience and growth!

Thanks! Yet, it won't be a 60 rep today 😉 I'll give it until the end of the week lol

Still at the end of the day, it's just a number, what counts is what you produce and how you engage on this platform. 😊

True!!!

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yeah I’ve found that rep variance comes traditionally through “the quality of upvotes” rather than upvotes that come from the general, everyday users you connect with. Very cool post @altrosa AND @soyrosa 🙃

Posted using Partiko iOS

Hehe, yeah... 'Quality' ;-) Glad you liked the post @conradsuperb!

Hahah yeah quality, as in amount of SP someone hodls... SP is clearly the real power around here

Cheers, soyrosa 🤗

Posted using Partiko iOS

LOL - YES - it is, keep growing that SP, it's the best thing you can do around here ;-)

Check mate !!

It is bollox isn't it... rep I mean.

What disturbs me most is the way I quite enjoy seeing mine tick up gradually. Helped massively, in the same way yer alt account is helped by Utopian, by steempress!

Did I mention I don't get out much?

Thank you so much for participating the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
