We Need A Forum For All Crypto [Why Not Steem?]
Seeking Competitive Progress
We are living in a tribalist crypto landscape today. It's an eat or be eaten emerging industry right now. As bear market woes continue, more ICO communities are fading away or losing a bit of their early-2018 luster.
The DApper HODLers among us appear to have a pretty consistent formula. Most all cryptocurrency communities have a presence on Twitter, Reddit and Medium. For the last couple of years this has been by and large the standard (most of all for Decentralized Applications) - for crypto companies seeking to amass an audience. These traditional networks are great to draw more eyeballs inwards, but it's become increasingly difficult to sustain them.
We need more conversations across the aisle. (Something that you could argue - cultivates competitive progress.) Blockchain companies aren't talking to one another and their platforms are losing users as a result.
User retention is a huge problem across all cryptocurrency networks right now. No network (Steem included) is immune to this. Reddit isn't user friendly enough, Medium looks pretty but lacks engagement and Crypto-Twitter simply has way too much "free ETH." These traditional social platforms are super important to build bridges and onboard newbies into the blockchain world, but that might not be enough on its own. Shouldn't each of these crypto communities be seeking a blockchain-based forum to learn and benefit from one another?
We Need A Forum for all Crypto
The blockchain world needs a place to broadcast ideas, gather feedback and incentivize growth. So, why not practice what we preach... why not Steem?
Steem - the self proclaimed social blockchain - has over 50,000 daily users transacting (those actively upvoting / commenting.) That's definitely not a lot, but it's magnitudes more than any other blockchain fueled website. Here are some statistics looking at Ethereum, EOS and POA (below).
Apps like Steemit.com (one window into Steem) are making it easier for "outside" blockchains to find their voice. Starting a blog or vlog here doesn't mean you have to ditch your hometown crypto team.
Keep Your Crypto / Tap the Network
Sure, we (@sndbox) are stakeholders of Steem and yeah, it would be pretty nice if a DApp swapped Ethereum for Steem - but it doesn't have to in order to benefit from the community. All DApps are seeking more active usership. Steem offers an active (and enthusiastic) crypto-fluent community to broadcast to. Even if you're not using Steem as a rewards mechanism, why not start using it to attract new users?
How many DAUs has that Medium article earned you? Can you reward those new users directly through Medium or Facebook with crypto? The answer is no. But you can upvote the people who comment on your Steemit blog announcements, and reward users who publish articles / videos / tutorials focused on your platform. There are so many incentives here to gamify.
So, why can't an Ethereum DApp build a social presence on Steem? We're actually starting to see that happen. There are a handful of DApp communities beginning publishing updates and ideas here in an effort to reach a new audience and incentivize users to explore their product.
How Steemians Can Help
Steem could serve as an empowering forum for all crypto. This place could be a Mecca of breaking blockchain news, stories and ideation. We should be supporting of all kinds of blockchain companies and communities here. A few friends of ours are already leading the charge - @dadanyc, @decentraland, @creativechain and @knownorigin. Show them some love. Check out their DApps, give them some feedback.
We're all in the same boat. Let's start paddling in the same direction.
Empower artists, writers, musicians, non-profits and community initiatives - delegate Steem Power to @sndbox (using the links below) or follow our curation trail. Learn more about Sndbox - watch our introduction, here.
Would you expect the other crypto currencies that will be using the STEEM blockchain to advertise themselves to invest in STEEM?
Of course, both are good! There are a ton of benefits to be had by doing both advertising and investing. But it's also important to note that a new user doesn't have to do both in order to build a successful / impactful network here.
Example 1 - Right now you can join and use Steem for free and publish content that in most cases (if it's decent) will get noticed and rewarded. You don't need to invest money in this case. It's just about an investment of time.
Example 2 - If you literally buy a lot of Steem, yes, you could upvote your followers / incentivize them to use your DApp / promote your announcements to the trending page.
I swear there was a prominent Steemian talking about creating a forum app for people to use. I can’t remember their name to save my life.
But when i first learned about steem i literally thought this was the forum for crypto related issues and discussion.
while nothing is ‘official’ it’s like you guys said a lot more active than other blockchains.
would be an awesome thing to see if steem became the hub for all crypto related discussions. instead of reddit, medium and twitter.

Thanks.

Steemit has the capacity. I hope they, at steemit inc, make it easier for people to join steemit by reducing the waiting time...and also making the site as friendly as other social sites.
This is exactly what I have been trying to do for the last 4 months. That is why we have arranged the first #DigiByte #Blockchain Meetup in London and I expect it to be a huge event. The response has been phenomenal. Stephen
Very practical idea to give other projects the chance to interact on the steem blockchain. On the other hand we also need a dapp built in a similar way to reddit in orther to better index and find stuff.
Absolutely. We need way better tools for content discovery and navigation here. Steemit is really behind on this. Other apps like Steempeak and eSteem have made exciting strides... But yes, discovery is a big chokepoint for this blockchain that needs attention!
i think steemit is the great platform

Steemit would be a great platform to share and provide updates on crypto projects but unfortunately not everyone seem to support that idea. I remember that Dan posted updates on EOS on Steemit early on but got flagged even while declining payouts. Now all major EOS updates are posted on medium.
