Finding quality content and upvoting it before a whale comes along has the potential to be far more rewarding
And indeed this is exactly what the algorithm is designed to incentivize and reward!
Those who are the best at finding hidden gems both add value to the system by giving that content more exposure more quickly and will also earn the greatest rewards.
Precisely! I initially intended this post to be satirical in nature due to all the 'guides' on how to upvote content. They all said the same thing -- upvote whales before other whales upvote them. This type of pattern doesn't particular benefit the Steem experience (at least in my opinion).
In the end, I didn't have enough satirical comments in the post for it to be read in that manner and outlined this alternative (and, ultimately superior) strategy instead.
Best to make your own current than to swim with the tide.
