Open source contribution to the community

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Today I read a post about the giving mentality on steem which kept me thinking about the projects/apps/tools here and how they contribute to the community. I did some research on how the projects are licensed or if the code is publicly available at all.

Everything on steem is available for the general public, all your activity, even monetary information of every user, nothing is hidden here.
In my opinion this should count for every kind of software using the network too.

I figured most developer, e.g. @good-karma or @jesta, just to name some, share their source.
First this helps new devs like me to learn from their experience which I used intensively already.
Second I trust their apps as I can check what they are doing behind the scenes.
The former will help the network growing through new developers and their ideas.
The latter one is crucial for projects where cryptography is involved.

I couldn't find all the code/license for all the projects I'm aware of, so I don't know whats the case with these.
I have updated the project list on Steem Docs with the license information I found so far.

If I missed some please share!!

I will not use any tool for steem whose source code I don't see and neither should you ;)

Share your thoughts on the topic too!!

Steem on..

Sort:

I worked long hours on http://steemtools.com a few days ago to categorize the tools and updating the projects.
Please use the form at the bottom to add any missing project.

I think I've made a listing for your project already.

Thanks :) Great work.
What (other) projects are you working on? Will add you to the dev list if you like..

Is steemtools open source? Is that the one?

yes it is, Try out the label button at the top. Make the whole thing way less cluttered.

Indeed, helps a lot to filter..

Thanks for posting these sites.

Thank you for making this information and helpful site resources available to us! Have a great day, @sarasate

With pleasure. Good night ;)
