RE: How Long Does it Take to Undelegate Steem Power and Why

in #steem6 years ago

Hi! It takes one week. If this delay wouldn't be there, you could delegate 100SP to an account, upvote until his voting power is almost 0, undelegate and delegate to someone else, then he can vote with that same 100 SP again until his voting power is almost 0 and so on. You would be able to get an awefull lot of rewards from just 100SP and it is not meant to do that. So the delay of one week makes sure you cannot abuse your Steem Power like that.

At least that's how I understand it ;)

Thanks for the response but I'm not really sure I understand. If you are upvoting someone why would his Steem Power go to 0? Wouldn't voting for someone be a good thing?

Sorry I meant voting power not Steem Power go to 0.

Yeah, voting is a good thing, but upvoting everything is not a good idea for the ecosystem, there has to be a way to reward good articles and reduce the amount of bad content. Every time you vote, your voting power goes down by 2% (You can check it at steemd.com/@farmergreen). So your second vote is only worth 98% of your first vote, and your third will be worth 96% and so on.
The idea behind this is that you have to think about when you give people your upvote (Money) so people would upvote quality content rather than everything they come across.
