nice post @ryn, ya patience and hodl are two key points working with any crypto currency, you make a wise decision to hodl your steem, i am sure you get really good return for this soon.
i think steemit growth is good in 18 months or so, did we know facebook, bitcoin, twitter, instagram in their early months no, but once no. of accounts growing above 70K they becomes sort of viral things and every body rushes in to buy and use them, so that's why i say have patience stick to it and we will get really good returns.
And when steemit comes out of beta, and especially if DTube or similar features become more usable (embedding, like youtube videos) I think it's going to explode!
steem will rise but never hold or hodl when it spikes past your buy in sell for profits and buy back in on dips always make money, unrealized gains are just the fish that got away.
You dont holding and hodling are nonsense you sell when the time is right and rebuy in on dips keep taking profits is the name of the game anything else is hype to talk to artificially inflate so people can sell for profits or buy more for cheaper.

You need to treat it very carefully and think twice before you do something, I myself have been buying Bitcoin in small amounts since 2014 every month, that way you even out your risk, to be honest, since that time the small amounts of money I have been putting in Bitcoin has outperformed my share portfolio by a huge amount, but buying shares is still lower risk than crypto, but all that, I would recommend my method to anyone, it has been working out really well for me.
The only money I made so far was swing trading volatile alts, It's just that I invested in steem before I learned anything so only option for now seem to be holding.
I did just buy into some BTC at 3800, and holding.
