STEEM is a Small Cap

in #steem8 years ago

Hello guys, on this post we talk about "Market Capitalization" (or "Market Cap").

In finance, market capitalization is calculated by multiplying a company's shares outstanding by the current market price of one share. It's very simple...

Look at this chart:

It's a chart of Amazon. The blue line is "Shares Outstanding" and the orange line is "Market Cap". At the last close the capitalization is 347 B. This amount is calculated by multiplyng 472 M Shares * 736 $ (Last Price).

Market cap is used to compare companies based on their size. It helps us determine whether we can consider a company small, medium, large or mega (like Amazon).
Traditionally, companies were divided into:
Mega Cap: >200 B
Large Cap: >10 B & < 200 B
Mid Cap: >2 B & < 10 B
Small Cap: <2 B

It's the same for crypto markets. On

Then today we can catalog Bitcoin as a Large Cap, Ethereum and STEEM as a Small Cap.
In particular this is the chart of STEEM Cap:

It's interesting to note that the Cap improved at the beginning of July. The main reason is the spike on prices (spread STEEM/BTC). it's also important underlying that crypto market is a new ones and on this sense the Market Cap is impressive & amazing...

Have a good crypto-day!

Thank you for the explanation of market caps, it was something I was previously curious about. Hopefully steem will achieve Mega Cap status in the near future!

We hope... cross your finger ;)

Please go deeper into what "Shares outstanding" means, ty!

Hi akareyon,
shares oustanding is company's stock currently held by all its shareholders. For the crypto is equal to the amount of supply.

I am starting to get behind it. Thank you!
