Steem for Global Micropayments?

As people are getting poorer and poorer they are sending smaller and smaller amounts between one another. Not everyone has 100,000$ on hand to do an express wire transfer, and the fees are proportionally huge on small payments.

This is already an issue, for poor people, and in fact the majority of the population, especially in for 3rld world countries where the capital controls and excessive regulation is even more burdensome.

Now there are tons of payment processors that compete for this market, and it is a huge market, of over 140 billion dollars yearly. Then we also have remittances, which is even bigger, over 600 billion $ yearly. According to the World Bank in 2015 it slowed down:

Now there are many reasons why, but most I assume are tied to high fees, why pay 20$ for an international wire transfer when you only want to send 20$, you would pay double for that. Yes it is highway robbery, partly due to high regulations, partly due to the greed of the banks.

So the alternatives were pretty much things like Paypal and Western Union, which also have many negative customer complaints about them. WU has too high fees for micropayments, and Paypal is known to freeze accounts arbitrarily, sometimes even for months.

So what do we have now? We have Bitcoin, but Bitcoin is too volatile, and not that easy to use, so I think Steem is much better.

I think Steem can help many many people transfer money between one another easily and for free, and eventually they can even use that to buy items on the Steem Market. We can help the unbanked, the people who work abroad, and the poor people to have a more frictionless access to the global economy.
