When I'm on his page, the button says "follow," like they aren't followed.
...Well OK, It did so yesterday. Now it shows that they're followed. It fixed itself.

Which UI are you using? Can you send a screenshot?
Sorry, I edited to say that now it shows up fine. It showed as unfollowed yesterday, but now it says followed, like it fixed itself. This was on steemit.com itself, I only use Partiko on the phone to check notifications really.
Strange . This is a very hard issue to reproduce.
For real! Maybe the blockchain had hiccups. 😂
