Where in the World is Steem? #1 - Europe
Steem has changed a lot over the past year.
The geographic spread of the Steem community seems to have shifted quite a bit since the 'Big Split'.
Certain areas of the world such as South America, South East Asia and the Indian sub-continent appear to have grown significantly in Steem activity.
While other regions such as North America, Europe and Australia & New Zealand seem to have had a noticeable drop.
From what I can observe South Korea and China appear to have remained quite stable.
The ideal of course will be for Steem activity to grow equally in every part of the world.
As a starting point I am looking to conduct my own little mini-census of Steem activity around the world.
EUROPE
As I am in the UK I will kick off with Europe.
Europe has never really been a Steem Hot Spot but there have been active communities in Germany, the UK and Italy.
As part of SteemClub-UK I used to maintain a list of active Steemians in the UK. In the last such survey the number was around 120...
I am guessing only a dozen or so of those on that list are still active on Steem such as @simonjay and @stephenkendal. As well as a few new UK Steemians I have spotted such as @the-gorilla.
In Germany, the Deutsch D-A-CH Community (which covers all German speaking countries) is still active...
There is a Steem-Turkey Community run by Country Representative @alikoc07 but it doesn't appear to be very active...
There are also individual Steemians scattered across Europe like @xpilar in Norway.
The main hub of Steem activity in Europe is the very active Italy Community run by the Country Representative @girolamomarotta along with @sardrt and @mikitaly...

as a relatively engaged user from GERMANY I would like to answer you.
There are still many users from German-speaking countries, but we do not have a universal "community". D-A-CH is this long time no more, but to it later.
As you suggest, our "problem" is that we don't represent a country, but a language community (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). We only agree on the language and mark this with the hashtag #deutsch. If you look at the hashtag, you see: We exist.And we are much more than the handful of users you find in D-A-CH. Honestly, D-A-CH was created by people who are now mostly on HIVE, who also ranted a lot about STEEM during HF and afterwards.
Anyway, the split has split us too, D-A-CH no longer exists as once thought. Feel free to remove this community from your list, you can find German speaking users under #deutsch.

I will be doing a revised version of this Europe list shortly as I need to expand to include the communities in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia that I didn't get first time round.
yea, ... i wonder if i asked 100 people here what BITCOIN is how many would say "wut?" ... i offered a few people a free account on my behalf years ago and they looked at me like "you're trying to scam me , are you ?"

a bit more promotion from the topside wouldnt hurt, if zuck promoted faceberg like steem did steem no one would know about it and dorsey would be zuck ... or maybe that other thing no one talks about anymore
