Genesis 1:27 say "so God created man in his own image...." What does it mean to be created or made in God's image? Having the image or likeness of God simply means that we were made to resemble God. We don't resemble God in terms of flesh and blood because He is a spirit and exists without a physical body ( John 4 : 24 ). However, we were made in His similitude mentally ,morally and socially. The image of God refers to our immaterial part which sets us apart from other creatures and enables us to commune with Him.

Mentally, we were created as rational and volitional beings. in other words,we can reason and choose. this is a reflection of God's intellect,freedom of choice and decision-making. Anytime we invent something , write a book,paint a landscape,or calculate a sum, we are demonstrating God's in built intellect in us. morally, we were made in righteousness and perfect innocence which is a reflection of God's holiness. thus whenever we recoil from evil, praise good behaviour or feel uncomfortable with wrongdoing, we are confirming fact that we were made in his image.

socially, we were created for fellowship .This depicts God's true nature of agape love. in Eden, man's primary relationship was with God.
God made the first woman because "it is not good that the man should be alone ".Every time we marry, make a friend or fellowship in church, we are demonstrating God's nature. in Genesis 1:26 God says. "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ". He gave us physical bodies even though He is not a physical being Himself. The fact that we have bodies means that we mirror His life in some ways. As immortals beings, we were originally created with perfect health. God never got sick and He is immortal. Therefore , He created Adam with sound health,without any record of sickness untill he fell into sin. Part of being made in God's image is that Adam had the capacity to make free choices. although, he was given a righteous nature, he made an evil choice to rebel against God. consequently, he marred the image of God in him, brought sickness and death upon himself and passed the same to all his descendants. The salvation work of christ on the cross of Calvary has redeemed us and given us a new image and identity (2 corinthians 5:17). May you receive the grace to walk in the newness of that life.
