Steem is free expression on a Graphene blockchain

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

For this a network of witness computers is needed. Posts need to be added to the blockchain database. Every 3 seconds a new block, not every 10 minutes like Bitcoin. In this process new Steem is created. About 800 of those happy tokens per minute.

Witness computers run the Steem on Graphene software that make this possible. There is not a company like FB that owns this. Not even the network of witness computers own it. If they all wanted to quit, then nothing would keep others from keeping the blockchain going.

All Steem accounts are part of it

We are in co-operation, all who have a Steem account. This is our decentralized company on a blockchain. The Steem Power of all accounts is the common inVESTment shared on the blockchain. The network of witness computers are securing the interest of all on the blockchain. They keep the ChainBase database safe, secure and decentralized.

It is not a database like Twitter, where the information is controled, centralized and owned by a company backed by big investment groups. Steem on Graphene is a Chainbase blockchain, that is decentralized. Information on it is secured by complex cryptography math.

And without a decentralized network of peer to peer connected computers there would not even be a Steem blockchain! Did you know that even SteemIt incorporated is eventually not needed anymore to keep the blockchain going? Not even the current developement team have to stay part of it. Because it is Open Source. That secures the ongoing future of Steem.

Why? Because the smart freedom loving people who created this piece of awesome software made it to last. Even in a way that it can function on it's own! Yes, you are reading what you thought you read, the Steem blockchain is ment to function completely by itself in the near future. That is about the time it will go out off Beta...

Have you ever programmed in C++?

For Steem to become a fully self sufficient blockchain to be able to run forever it needs to be coded smart. Currently there are a lot of changes waiting in the pipeline. Some of those are going to cut deep into the basic construction of the Steem blockchain. That needs a lot of coding which should result in a better working blockchain.

Our posts, curations and so on should be kept as they are. And it should be able to scale. Maybe to be able to handle half a billion of accounts. And then there's the matter of economics.

This is going to be different from 'just' changing the maximum amount of Steem allowed to be created. And who will get what from the pool of Steem created every minute. This needs to be build to last. In a way that future economic changes can be proposed by the witnesses. Just like the interest on Steem Backed Dollar and the price of SBD can be done.

And when voting for witnesses is reset four times a year means the account holders get more say in the whole process. So, in effect you and me will get more influence on the economic part of Steem too. Through our voting power chosing the right witnesses.

Making the economic part of Steem, like inflation, dynamicly adjustable is a smart thing to do. But it needs to be future secured. If that would get implemented with bugs that could do more harm than good.

And that needs to be programmed in a language that I can tell you is almost cryptography in itself. But, like I have written before, I don't C that well. And I have a lot of respect for those who do. So, developers team of Steem a tip to the hat, keep up the good job.

We are all in this together

Account holders, content creators, witnesses, developers, we all are one in this thing called Steem. We need each other in this to keep Steem going, way into the future. And all good things do need time to grow.

Yes, the price if Steem might fluctuate between 0.09 and 0.12 US$ a while longer, until all changes are implemented in a safe way. And in the meantime there will still be a lot of Steem Power send to all accounts for free. Every minute every Steem Power holding account will grow it's Steem Power.

For me the Steem blockchain is something that might become very important for our future. When we might need to have a platform that can guarantee our freedom of expression. A decentralized database that cannot be controled by any power that wants to rule. Our information safe from censorship and deformation.

Maybe that is even more valuable than the current market value of Steem.

Thank you for your attention.

I'm glad that you were able to see the presentations, it was quite interesting.

Yes, we had the stream on TV, not seen all but I'm glad I could see part of it. Hope the edited video of the main hall becomes available again.

Whished that I had been there though...

There were a lot of presentation. I missed 2 or 3 because there were in another room.

The presentations in the Studio are on youtube available. So you can still catch up. :-)

I saw them. But the one in the main hall is not working for me.

Yes, the main hall video was blocked, due to some copyrights thing. But there might be an edit coming soon where the music parts are cut out.
