Is there a weakness in the steemit platform?
Perhaps seeing a weakness depends on how one envisions the development of cryptos and their complimentary online communities as either revolutionary or evolutionary. If you are in the evolutionary school then the fact that blockchain technology is preserving the content ledger is a great step forward in decentralizing society. Praise need be given for the Witnesses who preserve that ledger.
The weakness resides in the centralized means of distribution of the ledger's content.
A DDOS attack or the heavy hands of a US internet provider, with a defrocked net neutrality, could disable that distribution.
A, possibly, more sensible and revolutionary approach might be to give the Witness nodes the ability to distribute the blockchain's content on their own; as well as bringing Miners back.
Should things move towards more decentralization then one may want to consider the creation process of Steem Tokens and why Miners have been shut out of the small 1/19th share they once held. That seems worthy exploration for another day.....
Would love to hear feedback on this issue. Has steemit fully evolved or do middle layers still need removal?

For me there have always been two trends: moving to center or out of it
Appreciate your feedback, @leosenior. The author, and actual work, which propelled me into the Info Age was Alvin Toeffler's, The Third Wave. He predicted, rightly so, that the pendulum would swing towards having decentralization a major tenant of the new age and the waning of the Industrial Age's tendancy towards centralization.
It is my feeling we are cresting/trending into a very decentralized world.
Yeah, Steemit looks rather democratic. And it is a cluster of attempts to decentralization in all human spheres. However, some fossilized areas are still strong: Propaganda, money sector, religion… the singer speaks it out better:
