I think an important development that has been forgotten since Steemit announced its layoffs was the Hivemind project which I think is an important evolution of the Steem ecosystem so that communities with niche focuses can start to be created and foster each other for content relevant to each. Otherwise, we may never find what we most enjoy...

I agree. If Hivemind delivers most of what it promises will enable communities to really build solid foundations and relationships with their members. I think there are also lots of interesting tools that make development and the views more interesting too.
