Very interesting. I've only been here for a few weeks now, so I was unaware of the histiry with the various voting power curves and hard forks. It seems to me, to be a system that can be discouraging to new users. For obvious reasons, new account shouldn't just be loaded with lots if power, but making it a but easier to earn (or maybe harder to hoard) would be useful.
