Where does STEEM value come from?

I have been bragging about the STEEM community to my friends and family for some time now and one of the most frequent questions I get are: How is value created? Where are all that money coming from?

After struggling to explain with terms of SBD, SP, blockchain and the underlying technology behind, I decided to try analogy.

Here it goes:

• Steemit is a big field
• Every blog is a garden
• Every post is a plant
• Comments are plowing tools
• Upvotes are fertilizers
• STEEM is a seed
• SBD are the fruits and vegetables
• SP is the number of different plants in your garden
• Blocktrades is the local fresh market
  
  
  

So when you sign up, the community gives you a garden and some seeds. You plow the garden, plant the seeds and nurture the plants. You also help others in their gardens and they help you with yours. Then the garden gives you ripe tomatoes, apples, onions and some parsley too!

Some you keep for more seeds the other you take to the local market and sell. The more seeds you keep the more your garden grows and diversifies..

After telling this to my friends they instantly understood where value is created and where all that money comes from!
