While I support this suggestion, I think the real change has to happen at the site level. Change the trending algorithm. Make all upvotes equal in terms of trending. Meaning, an upvote from @freedom would still be worth whatever it's worth, but would not count towards trending any more than an upvote from me.

I think an algorithm based on a combination of unique comments and number/weight of upvotes would be better.
