STEEM-HEET - Why not use STEEM mining equipment heat to heat poorer households?

in #steem8 years ago

Why don't we use excess heat from our miners who secure our STEEM network to heat poorer households?

STEEM-HEET - its gotta kinda ring to it!

Enclosed is a pic of my PC rig currently producing heat for the STEEM network - its currently working on your future coins that'll make their way into your wallet.

It's time 4 STEEM to start giving back to poorer households....let STEEM-HEET rise...(excuse the pun!)

Anyways, if you agree with this, then vote it up and STEEMIT may take notice?? (and if not, all STEEM donations will re-invested to keep our network trucking along...thank you kindly for reading.)

p.s. ...one more idea...why can't ideas be sold on STEEM just like IndieGoGo or Kickstarter?? Why not? (this one may be the first, or not?!)

The main problem is transporting the heat your computer generates, just moving hot air over long distance will result in the hot air getting colder. So the heat generated from a single computer might be enough to heat up the air inside the room where the computer is or help increase the temperature in the apartment or house you live in, but not to transport it efficiently over long distance. Single computer just won't be enough...

Now if you use liquid cooling and use the liquid to transfer heat and have a lot of mining hardware (large mining farm) that uses a lot of energy, you could do something like that, but probably only in the neighborhood and it will be quite expensive to put tubing to transfer the hot liquid around. And then what will you do in the summer when nobody wants heat, but cold instead?

Cryptos, my idea would be to install the miners in poorer households as part of a charitable project - no need for pipes my friend. The miners would generate a percentage of STEEM to help them cover the increased electricity costs to power the machines. STEEM would then be a cryptocurrency TRULY operating at all levels of society. mindhunter.

Ok, that makes it more reasonable in some ways, but is still hard to implement. You need good Internet connectivity, because of the way STEEM mining works otherwise you might have trouble getting any rewards. You would also need a powerful computer with a high-end CPU just to make mining effective... fast multi-core processors are expensive.

But then again a good high-end processor rarely uses more than about 100W unless you further overclock it. So the heat generated by a single computer won't be that much for heating even when working 24/7 it will increase the ambient temperature in a not so big room by just a few degrees.

In the end the mining does bring you Steem Power as a reward and you will need to cover costs for the hardware, for the electricity used and for the internet connectivity. Steem Power cannot be withdrawn directly, you will need to power down and get weekly installments.
Will the rewards be enough to cover the costs and will be that effective as a result in the end...

Cryptos, the costs would need to be subsidised via a STEEM-HEET charity project - hence its give-back to society. We'd need some HEET-geeks to service the nodes from time to time too! (count me in!) mindhunter aka HEET-geek #1. Wanna be #2?

The idea is brilliant. Possibly it could zero their heating cost, and as a bonus throw in a free internet connection.

In summer the heat can drive a refrigeration system. I doubt it would provide much, however. But certainly a liquid cooling system could push heat into radiators in your house or a neighbour's easily.

lok1, there are liquid cooled CPUs/GPUs already, so no worries on your idea there! Cheers mindhunter

p.s. one problem is with the new Intel CPU 14nm process making processors smaller with less heat output! i.e. the i7-6970-X for example! GRRRRRR!

A very clever idea trapped in a morass of STEEMING-shite!

Too much STEEMING shite on this site for my liking!

omarb - thanks for the link my friend. mindhunter

You are welcome friend.
I applaud your idea very much, I have been pondering the same also.
We all want to support steem of course but maybe cpu-mining alone isn't the best option to generate the amount of heat we need to fill a room or a whole house. Add a a rack of gpu 's and the heat generated will easily heat a room.
My guess to really benefit the average Joe we need to create a system that is easy, plug and play and all people worry about is heat or no heat while the machine mines in auto-mode coins that are profitable. The business model should be carefully build that it stays healthy and is profitable in long term for both consumer and seller. For example people buy the "heater" but they get free electricity and internet, profits of the coin are shared between the company and the users if it is sustainable. This would be a huge selling point because consumers would not only get free heat but even make a profit on it.

omarb, you hit the USPs of my charitable idea right on the head! Merci! I think we'll need to wait and see if STEEM makes it to old age first as a crypto-coin? Then they may finally get their bums in gear!

With the cold winter coming, I may soon be running a mining cluster, and I expect it will eliminate most of my need for heating. I love things that give multiple benefits :)

l0k1, stay warm this Winter :) mindhunter

I should have a shelf full of little fanless rigs in my room by then. Convection should keep my bedroom warm. Makes sense to make use of the heat to offset heating bills. Relative to many other essentials in Bulgaria, heating is quite expensive.

I want to move my rig from the UK to rural Poland to heat my g/f's mothers house in Wintertime - plus electricity is cheaper there - but not oil so much!...enter my STEEM MONSTER rig!

p.s. I have lots of heet power but no steem power to get this post to where it needs to be to be noticed! This is an SOS msg to all LARGE STEEM POWERERS!! Do some good - stop boosting the egos of others and boost a charitable idea instead!

GO STEEM-HEET!! - I hope you find a BIG WHALE to support you on this!

Thanks @lynchiandream - lets hope a whale can do some good!

Start of September soon, and its gets damp here in Scotland, so could do with one of these rigs real soon.

Thanks for all the SBD micro-donations. Micro (or MACRO) donations also welcome in BTC at: 1KiYLjywVBrs95pSJsdwPm698xAJ6YUqhM
Many thanks @mindhunter

All donations have been turned to STEEM POWER to boost this campaign.

We really need a STEEMcrowding site for this idea!
