Pada abad ke-14 melon dibawa ke Amerika. Akhirnya melon tersebar keseluruh penjuru dunia terutama di daerah tropis dan subtropis termasuk Indonesia. Karena indonesia adalah negara yang beriklim tropis dan sangat cocok untuk budidaya melon, sehingga sampai sekarang tanaman melon masih sangat populer di indonesia.
