7 THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO YOU WHEN YOU STOP EATING MEAT
People who choose a plant-base diets do so for many reasons, including losing weight, feeling more energetic, and reducing the risk of heart disease.
1- You will reduce chronic inflammation:
Chronic inflammation has been linked to the development of atherosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases, among other conditions. Plant -based diets are anti-inflammatory because they are high in fiber, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients, and much lower in inflammatory triggers like saturated fat and endotoxins (toxins released from bacteria found in animal foods).
2-Your cholesterol will plummet:
Elevated blood cholesterol is a key risk factor for heart disease and strokes., two of the leading killers in the United States. Saturated fat-primarily found is animal products-is a major driver of our blood cholesterol levels. Studies show that when people go plant-based, their blood cholesterol levels drop by up to 35 percent. In many cases, the decrease is equal to that seen with drug therapy-with many side effects. Whole food, plant-based diets are high in fiber, which reduces blood cholesterol.
3-You will have a healthier gut:
The trillions of microorganisms in our bodies called the microbiome are crucial for our health:they help us digest our food, train our immune systems, turn genes on and off, protect us from cancer. Studies show they play a role in obesity, diabetes, autoimmune disease, and liver disease. Plant-based foods help shape a healthy intestinal microbiome. The fiber in plants promote growth of friendly bacteria in our guts. On the other hand fiber-poor diets (such as those high in eggs, milk an meat)can foster the growth or disease-promoting bacteria.
ANIMAL PROTEIN IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR TO WEIGHT GAIN, HEART DISEASE , DIABETES , INFLAMMATION, AND CANCER.
4- You will change your genes:
Scientists have make the remarkable discovery that lifestyle factors can turn genes on and off. For example, the antioxidants and nutrients that we eat in whole-plant foods can change gene expression to optimize how our cells repair damaged DNA. Dean Ornish's 2013 study showed that adapting a plant-based diets, and other lifestyles changes can lengthen our telomeres-the caps at the ends of our chromosomes that help keep our DNA stable (shortened telomeres are associated with aging and earlier death).
5-You will get the right amount of protein:
The majority of people in the United States get 15 times more protein than they actually need. Excess protein is store as fat or turned into maws te, and animal protein is a major contributor to gain weight, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. However, the protein in plant foods protects us from many chronic diseases. The longest-lived people on Earth-those who live in Blue Zones- get about 10 percent of their calories from protein compared with the U.S average of 15- 20 percent.
6-You will reduce risk of type 2 diabetes:
Animal protein-especially red and processed meat- has been shown in studies to increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. In the Adventist population, omnivoros have double the rate of diabetes compared with vegans, even when accounting for differences in body weight. Other studies show that increasing red meat intake more than just half a serving per day is associated with a 48 percent increased risk in diabetes.
Why does meat contribute to type 2 diabetes? Several reasons: animal fat, animal-based(heme) iron, and nitrate preservatives in meat have been found to damage pancreatic cells, worsen inflammation, cause weight gain, and impair the way our insulin functions.
Whole-plants foods-especially whole grains- are highly protective against type 2 diabetes. And if you already have type 2 diabetes, a plant-based diet can improve or even help reverse your diabetes.
7- You will improve the earth:
Animal agriculture is the single largest contributor to greenhouse-gas emissions and a leading cause of land and water use, deforestation, wildlife destruction, and species extinction. The current food system contributes to world hunger. The majority of crops grown worldwide go toward feeding livestock, not people.
Equally important, animals raised for food are sentient beings that suffer, whether raised in factory farms or on "humane" farms. Being healthy is not just about our consciousness-our awareness of how our choices affect the planet and those with whom we share it.

I've read that gut bacteria can account for 80% of your brains serotonin (feel good chemical) levels. So the better the happier the stomach bacteria, the happier you feel!
I agree with this, however it's important people understand the difference between essential and non-essential amino acids (proteins). Essential proteins cannot be made in the body, and instead have to be eaten as food. If people begin a vegetarian or vegan diet they may be eating enough protein, but not the right types of proteins.
I think a good rule to follow here is the good old disclaimer *"Consult a doctor before trying any major diet changes"
