Turn on Future

in #steem6 years ago

I don’t often get to write about technology from my area but, how exciting is this news?

Samsung stores in three Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) have announced that they will be taking cryptocurrencies as payments. BTC, ETH, DASH, NEM, STEEM, XRP, and LTC. Yes, STEEM is on the list! That’s fantastic! Right?

This has been made possible through a partnership with Coppay which is a European fintech company that will provide the services for payments. The store locations are in Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, and Kaunas and there are 31 of them in all.

Samsung’s slogan is Turn on Future which seems like a suitable phrase considering their size and willingness to be one the first very large companies to trial cryptocurrency transactions. They have also said that their other sellers may be adding crypto payments in the future as well.

One of Samsung’s business areas is making semiconductors which have been in high demand for mining over the last year. It seems natural that blockchain technology and crypto as payments would get their attention.

As more and more companies start using cryptocurrencies for their day to day business, they will want stability, performance and scalability. Steem could be a perfect fit for many companies since it is able to handle a high volume of traffic, has no transaction fees and is really fast in comparison to other currencies which could potentially bring us even more users.

With enough news like this, Steem will have more users to find us and hopefully discover that there is much more to Steem than just a coin.

Hi m31. That is really good news. I still won't buy anything though. Don't want to be like that guy who bought a pizza with Bitcoin. Can you imagine how you will feel if your bought a TV or something and Steem pumps. It will be the most expensive TV on the planet.

Or just replace what you spent. Instead of refusing to buy with crypto, you can buy with crypto and then buy more crypto to replace what you spent. This helps to grow the crypto economy without depleting your holdings.

Good thinking 99.

So you are not a stupid lemon.

Hi @cryptoandcoffee. I probably won't buy either, but the idea that you can stroll in the store and buy something with your crypto is pretty exciting. That will be our future everywhere hopefully.

This so much. I need to boost my Reddit karma. I saw this announced over in /r/cryptocurrency on Reddit, but the top-rated comment at the time was basically "wtf, STEEM? so random." I tried commenting but the moderator bot tells me I have to have more Reddit karma to post there, though they didn't explain where I was supposed to get it from. I'm not really interested in most areas of Reddit anymore since I found Steem. Here is the comment and what I tried to reply:

Looks like it shows up too small here, but the question is,

Strange list of currencies, like why STEEM?

and I tried to reply,

STEEM's big in Korea and Samsung is a Korean company. That might explain it.

Also, if you actually look at Steem as a platform rather than a coin, it's one of the very few alts with real-world utility right now. I'm not saying "alts are all a scam," but there aren't a lot of them with much real-world adoption, which means they don't provide much real-world utility. Steem is different; it doesn't really need external adoption to thrive. It's a blockchain-based social network.

Yeah, yeah... "blockchain this, blockchain that..." I am sure we are all used to rolling our eyes out of our heads when hearing how someone put X on the blockchain. Steem is different though, and I encourage you to take a look.

Yes, we have our problems and I will readily admit that. Our trending page sucks because of bought votes, there's a lot of infighting and a lot of drama between the big players, and it's one of the few places where you may actually eventually get sick of people being polite to you. Still, joining Steem is one of the best choices I have ever made.

You have an interesting and well-written post history; I'd love to see you on Steem. Let me know if you want an account. I can make you one if you're interested, just PM me.

Sadly the person won't get it because of the karma policy :(

Hey lemon. They will get it but definitely a missed opportunity on deaf ears.

Very well said Lemony. Steem stands out in many good ways :)

It is going to be interesting to see if in time, prices will come down as they don't have to spend as much on money transfers.

Oh wow, that's AMAZING. How cool to go out into a store and transfer Steem to buy something!

I love that hedgehog, she is always welcome. Tech is growing and the need for alternatives to banks along with it, but imagine paying with what you have and it grows 1000% in the following year? Ouch
