Chrome extensions weekly – Week #1 The great suspender

in #steem7 years ago

##Hi. Today I am starting a new series CEW (Chrome Extensions Weekly). This first one is a personal favorite of mine.

The great suspender is a chrome extension designed to save memory and CPU usage. It operates quietly in the background and tracks your tab usage habits. If it determines based on your settings that a tab is not being used very often, it will display a low resource “Tab suspended” page which will promptly go away after you have the tab selected for a little while. Now let’s take a look at this add-on in a little more detail.

The settings menu

It features a clean and friendly design. Here you can set all your preferences like the time needed to consider a tab inactive, whether or not you want to suspend pinned tabs, whether to suspend tabs that are playing audio and a whitelist of sites that will never be suspended.

Next, you have the sessions menu. This reports statistic information about how much tabs have been suspended in your sessions and much more. This tool also features keyboard shortcuts that make it possible to suspend a tab even if you used it recently. This suspension can also be done from the right-click context menu. The last option in the settings is the support section. Here you get the necessary contacts from the developer and the opportunity to donate some money to help the creator.

I really like this extension and personally use it in my everyday browsing experience. It saves a lot of system resources and can be configured in a way that you hardly notice that it is even installed. I would recommend anyone installs this.
