Get Rid of STEEM Power!!?? More Rewards, Less Interest Paid on STEEM Power!?steemCreated with Sketch.

Beware Elitism!

I have read in trending, and elsewhere, very well to-do posters advocating the end of STEEM Power, or the end of interest paid on held STEEM Power in favor of a phatter rewards pool ..

Well of course 'they' would!

There is a group of people, with significant STEEM Power, who make very large rewards (relatively-speaking), on each and every post they make. They no longer need to have STEEM Power to make STEEM - they curate sure, but compared to their drain on the rewards pool, it is insignificant - and mostly just spreading the love between themselves and other very well to-do posters. These people are taking over our beloved platform, to serve their own purposes, and it seems that STEEMIT Inc. is only listening to this elite.

STEEM Power, for most of us, represents our hope ... to increase our holdings through curation, and perhaps through receiving more support from people who wish to receive our support in return. The very top-tier of this platform no longer needs to worry about such things .. so they would prefer to be completely liquid, because they want to be able to easily move money out of here to trading platforms, and to get a piece of all these very dicey ICOs we see popping up every day.

What is Good for the Rich is Not Necessarily Good for YOU, or the Platform!

I hope headquarters sees this as clearly as I .. if the experience of the majority of users is not their primary concern, and this means people in the 500 - 5000 SP range (just pulled that outta my ass .. someone make this more accurate please). People 'holding' STEEM, in STEEM Power, is what makes the currency stable, and provides a base to go up from - if people were moving cheap-ass STEEM in/out of the platform, all day long, we'd look very cheeeeesey indeed!

What we need is the opposite of what they propose ..

The more STEEM Power you hold the higher interest it should pay, because it is good for the platform, and should be seriously incentivized. If you want to consider changes to benefit the rewards pool, maybe look at the entire Witness System instead of our humble earnings on our meager STEEM Power holdings.

If We Can't Beat'em .. Join "the50!"

Invest in STEEM, maybe get lucky every few weeks and win our lottery, and gain guaranteed 50% upvotes from fellow members! Only requirements ... upvote your fellow members at 50% (1 post per day at least), put 25 STEEM per week into the lottery and power up your wins, entirely.

Interesting. But I don't nessacarly agree with these you voat for me I vote for you groups.

I know what you mean .. it is the main criticism of course, but the fact is this is more about people buying and powering up STEEM - the curation aspect is just a way to maintain group cohesion ... the goal is to slowly up the amount of STEEM contributed to the lottery over time, and make it a guaranteed .. eventual win for each member - winner excluded until all have won, then start again. A fun way for people to ramp up their STEEM Power / curation capability, and to gain support in the interim (between members-only lottery wins, which will eventually be a very significant amount of STEEM).

might be interesting to see something like this in a smart contract.

They no longer need to have STEEM Power to make STEEM - they curate sure, but compared to their drain on the rewards pool, it is insignificant

Steem power is required to upvote content and 'drain' the pool.

People 'holding' STEEM, in STEEM Power, is what makes the currency stable

Liquidity creates stability.
The current pseudo stability is due to a low volume. Wait when the masses starts buying up steem like crazy. The price will shot up artificially due to lack of liquidity.
You need equal forces on both side( sell/buy) if you want stability.

The larger point here of course is that we all need to think of the little guys, the majority, and the wave of new users approaching .. their interests are paramount for long-term viability.

Interesting points but I power up to help steemit succeed. I would never be able to catch up the whales that bully the community and pools.

Aye ! .. that's the purpose exactly @pitterpatter ! I should not have framed it as a method of gaining 'power' 'faster', but rather as a simple means of incentivizing contribution and investment in the platform. The individual gain thang is just an aside. ;-)

yup : )
