I had the same concerns regarding a handful of people being put on autovoter to makes things easier for the whales but with the addition of free downvotes, it might change the behaviour.

Steem could be seen as cheap as a result but it already is that way with author rewards.

I dont know how to feel anymore. I sometimes feel like i am sitting on a goldmine that nobody will ever acknowledge therefore rendering it useless.
