Well, Steemit is. It's called Condenser.

https://github.com/steemit/condenser

Busy is.

I don't think SteemPeak is. SteemWorld isn't open source, I don't think, but the creator puts a lot of open source stuff out.

Hopefully they'll all eventually open source the other projects when they feel their code is secure enough to have the community see it and help make it more secure. Many people come from a different world though, where open sourcing code runs counter to everything they have been taught. They fear that people will just steal everything they've done and make their own things that put them out of business.

Yes, steemit is of course. But I mean if Busy hasn't differentiated itself enough from steemit, what good is it really? Yes there are different access points to the steem blockchain, which is a plus, but besides that, it also hasn't done enough to attract and retain new users. That likely tells us that steemit's problems are much more than a UI issue like some claim...

Oh, it's a lot more than just UI. Thankfully they're more competent than DrugWars at least. I actually don't mind the UI of Steemit. They could have done a better job splitting the wallet off though. They should have also fixed Trending a long time ago. Or gotten rid of it.

Most of the things wrong with the Steemit page are little things. Pretty much all of them were addressed by users at various times in posts and comments. They got an entire community of people that give them free ideas all the time.

if Busy hasn't differentiated itself enough from steemit, what good is it really?

At first they were pretty good. But it takes a lot to keep a site up to date and unique and such. Maybe they'll improve over time. I do like that they put images on IPFS, just like DTube does with videos. That means that anyone can run a server to serve the files and make them load faster, because it's distributed.

Yes, but they haven't done anything with it. It just sits there... like steemit. There has been attempt to bring in users outside of those already on steemit. On that note, why is steemit, inc not doing more to bring in new users?

Yeah...I get your point on that. They should at least do some social media efforts.

Though I can't help but feel like doing nothing is better than trying to bring racists and scumbags. That's just weird.

I think the best effort was actually done by partico I believe, when they backed up all the porn blogs from Tumblr. Some people may hate the NSFW community, but it was fucking HUGE on Tumblr, and it's not all horrible. Some of it's just adults that don't feel like humans should have to sensor their sexuality.

That lack of censorship is one of our major pluses. Even with people flagging, it's still not quite as bad as the mainstream yet.

We were doing alright with small efforts to bring in certain groups against censorship for a while...but the major platforms could do better, yeah.

Yea but I am talking about some actual advertising. Not community driven targeted efforts. Run a commercial or two about how steemit is going to do it right where facebook and youtube failed, stuff like that. My hope is they knew things couldn't scale anyways so they are getting that right now, but I am not confident that is what is going on.

What I worry about is pushing the monetary aspect. That was a problem with the people certain users were bringing in. They could even just pay a few YouTubers, and that would bring in a ton, and give brand recognition, but it would always come back to the people who have managed to get insane payouts on certain posts.

Maybe, but the times have changed. I think people can see that payouts were attached to the price of steem as well as number of people voting etc. I mean paying a couple famous youtubers a salary to post here would be a pretty good use of money...

Not many people outside of those already in crypto have heard of steemit and definitely not busy.org, and that is a major problem.
