Looks like Steem just got a USD pair!steemCreated with Sketch.

Fiat pairs are hard to come by in crypto-land, but steem appears to have just landed one!

In a blog post put out by the Steemitblog, it was revealed that steem was added to the Lykke cryptocurrency exchange.

The post can be seen here:

And their website can be seen here:

Steem will be listed with a BTC pair AND and USD pair!

That second one is of particular interest to me.

When I look at all the markets steem currently trades in, there are no USD pairs.

In fact, there are very few fiat pairs at all for steem.

Scrolling down the steem markets list, it looks like on Bithumb and Upbit there are steem/KRW pairs, which stands for the South Korean Won.

Apart from that, it looks like this would only be the 3rd exchange that has fiat pairs, and the first USD pair ever!

Good on you David Jefferys, Manager of Business Development for Steemit, Inc!

Looks like you are getting some things done!

Stay informed my friends.

Now we will have to see how the steem price reacts to that
And I will create an acc there xD

Now they need to promote it in that area as well!

That just the start

Why do you think that?

...because we need many more fiat pairings including INR. Just KRW & USD ain't enough!

I agree, but does that mean we will get them?

World exists because hopes exist.
Let's hope for the best!

This is a great start for sure! Hopefully, volumes will be high and attract other exchanges to consider doing the same! It will definitely increase the liquidity pool!

Yea I have no idea what the volumes look like. Not listed on coinmarketcap yet, and I haven't tried to create an account there.

If you consider USDT as equivalent of fiat, then Sterm is traded with USD at Huboi.

Correct, but I do not.

FIAT pairs has been the trend since late last year... First smaller exchanges introduce them for all the available coins and then bigger exchanges introduce them for select coins...

I still remember when Bittrex did announce they will focus on USD pairs for bigger traders.

Still waiting for them to do it for every pair... They talked like they would be going that direction eventually.

Trading altcoins against Bitcoin instead of FIAT is in my opinion unnecessary intermediary step that incurs double fee. Trading directly against FIAT is where things are eventually going, most likely USD, EUR, RUR and CNY pairs first. Smaller and local exchanges might also trade against local currency, like South Korean exchanges having KRW pairs.

Yep, and that will also likely help a lot of the altcoins decouple from bitcoin in terms of day to day price action. Right now they are linked, which makes very little sense.

I'm following what algorithm some altcoins choose after CN/CNLite Variant 1, as more than one has already said they won't upgrade to plain Variant 2... It seems users don't want pure PoW anymore even though they like PoW mining...

That is outstanding! A significant milestone.

Hopefully it brings an increase in volume and liquidity for the steem markets.

I am so in for this!

Hopefully it helps steem start going up.

This is going to be huge!!! Get ready for the moon $Steem hodlers

That would be nice!
