What Steem Is...And What It Is Not!

Crypto Twitter!

If you have not yet experienced the Bitcoin Maximalists vs. the Altcoin Crusaders, you don't know what you are missing...

Since I got my start in this fascinating niche, Twitter has been the go to resource for all things crypto.

Whether it's finding out the latest news on Bitcoin adoption, or just watching people slam each other's preferred coin of choice...It's always an adventure.

Today though....I saw what 'Crypto Twitter' had to offer when it came to the general opinion of what Steem is...And what it is not!

First...

That's Kevin. He's kind of a big deal in crypto circles....

Obviously, not a fan of Steem(it)...But I think it had more to do with Steem's public opinion rather than fact!

That's the 'bad' news...We have a lot of work when it comes to educating the masses on what Steem is and what it is not (Steemit).

Thankfully, we have awesome sauce Steemians on top of it...

Big shout out to @whatsup for the facts and nothing but the facts...

I have spent the better part of a month working hand in hand with the EXACT kind of 'crypto noob' Whatsup is describing...These are the people who don't know about crypto or are afraid of it because of misinformation....Steem is their first entry into anything blockchain related and this is one of our greatest strengths.

Our actual USE CASES! People getting their hands dirty and actually using the stuff everyday!

After that fun little exchange on crypto Twitter, I then saw what @TheyCallMeDan tweeted...

Just look at that...

Seriously, take a step back and without any biased opinion just look at those facts!

- Amazing rating from CoinMarketCap
- Top 10 blockchain ranked by China
- Top 5 in Blocktivity

But some how...

Steem continues to get disrespected on Twitter...And never seems to catch a break when it comes down to price.

I truly believe this all points back to ignorance on what Steem is and what it is not.

So I look at these 'Tweets' above...

And I know we've got some amazing people here, working hard to bring awareness to the blockchain. And that is what keeps me SO hopeful about Steem's future.

You simply cannot ignore the people here, because regardless of what Steem is trading at, it's always got REAL users and REAL community...Interacting every single day. Since 2016...

That to me is our greatest strength...Forget about the price, the world will catch on soon. And when they do, they will remember the Steemians who stuck with this place and continue to add value to it.

As I approach my 2nd year here on Steem...I'm as bullish as ever :)

I just have this strong feelings that steem have a bright future

A lot of the confusion About Steemit the front end / app and steem blockchain is due to the fact you have to have a Steemit account to access the Steem blockchain. So people see them as one in the same .

Also when there is a hard fork on Steem blockchain, HF21 for example. It is run by Steemit and the witnesses.

Just to further complicate things and add to the confusion, if you use another front end on Steem blockchain , BattleGames for example, it auto posts to Steemit . If Steemit is just an app on Steem blockchain then why does this happen?

Even for someone like myself who has been here for over a year, there is a level of confusion as to how it all works.

I know that Steem blockchain is a line of blocks that can be written upon and later edited but never deleted.

And that Steem is a crypto currency.

That Steemit is a social media front end / app built on steem blockchain . And that Steemit is also a company .

But how much influence does Steemit have over Steem the blockchain, which it is built upon?

If Steemit goes broke or decides to close shop for any reason, will Steem the block chain just stop working ?

If the answer is yes then this only complicates things even further .

Throw in the people that just like to post about things someone told them, with no real knowledge of how anything works or worst yet they are not even on Steem. It’s no surprise there is so much confusion.

If you can answer any of these questions I feel it would go a long way to helping people understand exactly what is and what is not Steem blockchain.

I think Steemit has major influence, obviously with the amount of SP they have...But at the end of the day, the Steem blockchain can function without a single company holding huge stake.

But you are right....There is tons of confusion out there.

Just keep on building Jon, CTPtalk has done a really good job onboarding new Steemians, and quite frankly the only way forward is to get people here and see it all for themselves, if they have not been using it they just have no idea what it's all about regardless of any reputation it has among non-steemians.

Build, Engage and Grow, stay awesome man!

I think that's how you grow the reputation....Building no matter what. Sucks that we still have negative ideas of what this place is...But it'll change.

Thanks! Wasn't sure anyone noticed.

Oh i creep on every Steemian on Twitter lolol

I definitely didnt know much about it until your training in ctp... and i've been here before. Theres alot of information about it and I can see how new members can become overwhelmed and yell negative things about it(sounds like something else doesnt it?).

People fear the unknown. Its just our human conditioning... but with step by step guidance steemians will persevere

Appreciate that! Yeah it really is...We turtle up and hide in our shells anytime we see something new...And we dont understand it all.

I have never been able to keep up with the Twitter world despite trying. I prefer reading my feed here on Steem instead (when I get the time).

lol yeah Steem is great for that....I just got into Twitter literally the first few months it came online...So I understood it right away. Made sense to me as a social network.

It's been just over a month since I starting working with steem and it is a different animal. While it has many nice features for those new to blockchain it is definitely inefficient when it comes to trading. Normally, I would try to exploit those inefficiencies but the lack of volume and transaction fees leave little room for profit. At present, it must simply be viewed as a social platform.

I think trading is back on Bittrex and Binance, but not 100% sure. I don't trade Steem. I just buy it and power up lol Because yup....I view it as a social platform ;)

The blockchain is a bonus!

I suck on social networks... Writing some relatively nice posts here, and later I don't spread that on social networks.. Such a waste... Have to change some habits definitely

I saw that Tweet today from you ;)

Just a word of advice, try to put the links to the tweets here as well as the screen shots so that it's fall off a log easy to go hit retweet and boost the signals we like!

UPDATE: I'm an idiot... the images are hyperlinked! Sorry! Great work.

lol thanks man. yeah i try to link to all the images especially if it’s a tweet :)
