Why you should convert your SBDs to Steem

Recently, there has been a general downward spiral of the steemit currencies. A lot of skepticism has been aroused in the minds of many members of the community as pending payouts dropped rapidly. I for one, made a huge payout loss on one of my posts.

This was the case for many persons here on the platform and this was quite disheartening for everyone. The average steemian would have been appalled by that condition. Many sold their SBDs for fear of further loss in value. Well, its quite understandable (even I sold some, not for fear sake though...).

However, the really experienced crypto minds saw an opportunity.
But before then, before I go further, let me explain how payouts work and why you receive more SBDs than STEEM Power, for those that may not know

Post Payout (50%SBD 50%SP)

You might have been confused seeing that a supposed payout of 50% SBD and 50% SP was always unequal. Ok here's the thing. SBD is pegged at a dollar while Steem isn't. So any figure amount of SBD you get from a post is assumed to be the equivalent in dollars. Whereas, for SP, the Steem equivalent of the dollar reward is calculated and sent to you.

Take for instance, you made $100 as author reward, from a post. You get 50% SBD which is $50. It is assumed that $1 = 1 SBD, so you automatically get $50 SBD. The remaining 50% is rewarded as SP. However, instead of crediting you with 50 SP, you get 7.94 SP. The reason is because, unlike SBD, Steem isn't pegged at a dollar. So the Steem equivalent of $50 is calculated using the current Steem Price (of which right now, its $6.30).

What all of this means

Although, SBD is supposedly pegged at $1, market prices show otherwise. The price of SBD right now is a whooping $6.99. 1SBD even went for $15 at some point in time!

It implies that if you made 50SBD from a post, instead of it being worth $50, it is actually worth about $350!
Cool right?
Yes! Really cool. Who wouldn't want to jump at this opportunity. Infact, nobody should even be considering full power up. You'll be shooting yourself in the foot.

However...

The Real Potential

While liquid SBD could make you unnaturally richer, there's more to it. Way back as July 2016, @sykochica told me she used to make about 300STEEM on a single post; Not necessarily because she had so many heavy weight upvotes, but because the price of STEEM was only about $0.3.

Imagine the value a payout has to have before you can make 300STEEM from it now. You would need a post worth $4200 payout to make that amount! But a post worth $180 would have fetched you this amount of STEEM in july 2016.

Why you should Care

STEEM is one very awesome crypto coin that has alot of potentials. Steemit as we know, is controlled by those with Steem Power. That is to say that, being able to influence this bullish platform, you would require STEEM and not STEEM DOLLARS. While SBD can make you richer now, you should look at the bigger picture. Right now, SBD costs more than STEEM. Some few weeks back, 1SBD could get you about 2STEEMs. Right now, the gap between STEEM and SBD is closing.

In the future, you may not be lucky enough to get 1STEEM for even 10SBDs; Just the same way you would most likely not be as lucky to get 300STEEM from a $180 post because STEEM would most likely not fall back to $0.3 again (But hey its crypto, anything can happen)

Point is, you should be investing in your Steem Power now. SBD is pegged at a Dollar. Might as well be corrected to fit that box.Right now, It has alot of value with respect to STEEM. You should capitalize on that. You may never get it this cheap again. STEEM is the coin with a lot of potential, every wise steemian who has Steemit on their long term view should buy as much Steem Power as they can.
