Yahoo Messenger was finally put to rest on July 17. The day saw fans mourning the end by taking on to online social media platforms like Twitter and Whatsapp to recall good old memories.
Started twenty years ago in 1998, the messenger was the earliest world wide web experience for the 90s kids. It was famous for its chat rooms that allowed people to talk in groups.

Yahoo Messenger failed to survive its recent-day competitors like Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram Direct.

The messenger was owned by US telecom giant Verizon’s subsidiary Oath. The company has stated that the users will get six months to download their chat history.

'Yahoo Messenger has had an amazing run. Over its twenty years, Yahoo Messenger introduced hundreds of millions of people to the joys of just the right emoticon for the moment (aka emojis). Yahoo Messenger changed the lives of millions, and thousands of people have sent us letters and photos over the years to share their stories of meeting a spouse over the service, keeping in touch with kids while serving overseas in the military, or introducing grandparents to new members of the family from across the globe.’ the Yahoo Messenger blog post read.

In another statement, the blog stated that the company is developing another messaging app, Squirrel. The app will probably be a replacement of Yahoo Messenger.
