Today I will be reviewing the Steemit Dapp

Steemit is a blockchain-based blogging and social media website, which rewards its users with the cryptocurrency (STEEM) for publishing and curating content, and is owned by Steemit Inc., a privately held company based in New York City and a headquarters in Virginia. The closest thing to Steemit is Reddit.

It is called a Dapp (Decentralized application) because it can only run on top of distributed computing systems such as Ethereum or Bitcoin.

It is a Dapp because it is stored and executed by a blockchain system. The blockchain steemit works with is called STEEM.

STEEM is a cryptocurrency based on the social media and content-focused Steem blockchain, which was created on March 24, 2016 by Ned Scott and the blockchain developer Dan Larimer. With over 1.2 million registered accounts and a daily volume of more than a million signed operations, Steem is amongst the five blockchains with the highest level of activity. In terms of total market capitalization, STEEM is currently ranked at place 40 with a market capitalization of more than 159 million USD March 13, 2019

A decentralized application (dapp, Dapp, dApp or DApp) is a computer application that runs on a distributed computing system. DApps have been mostly popularized by distributed ledger technologies (DLT), namely the Ethereum Blockchain, where dApps are often referred to as smart contracts.

Operating Principle

Steemit is designed as a decentralized application (DApp) built upon the Steem blockchain, using the eponymous cryptocurrency STEEM to reward users for their content. By voting on posts and comments, users get to decide the payout of those posts. Users also get so called "Curation Rewards" for finding and upvoting content that gets upvoted by other users afterwards.

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH STEEMIT

Since it is a platform based on the blockchain, it doesn’t let everyone sign up immediately because an account on Steem blockchain needs a protocol to be followed.

How to Create a Steemit account

1. Go to steemit official website: www.steemit.com

2. Click on the sign up tap and a screen like this will appear.

1. Enter your desired username.

While choosing your username, you must watch for a green mark sign signifying you that your username has been accepted against this you can’t move to the next stage.

1. Enter your email.

After you enter your email, steemit will send you a mail to your mail box now all you need to do is to follow the link on the mail to move to the next level. Steemit will always show you that a mail has been sent to you and the screen looks like this.

1. Open the mail and click on the link steemit sent to you to complete your registration. First a thank you screen will appear telling you that your email has successfully been verified.

1. Click on continue for the next thing.

Supply the answers to the question above.
Once that is done, steemit will send a code to mobile phone.

Now enter that code to finalize your registration.

Note: if you enter the wrong code, you will not be able to move to the next level.

After this, steemit will send another email to you. Hey be careful with this, this email carries your password.

1. Copy the password and login. Then your account is ready.

2. Keep your password/key/WIF (same things) safe and write it down somewhere (both digitally and on paper) because once lost, your account and the amount stored in it will not be recoverable.
