Benefits of having a social network on the Blockchain

What makes steemit unique?

I was just thinking about what makes Steemit valuable... I know that for us crypto-geeks this is the coolest thing in the planet because its decentralized and private, but why would a Regular Joe choose Steemit over reddit for instance?

Sort:

On Reddit you get karma which you cannot trade for real stuff. On steemit you can make money.

More importantly your votes actually give you the power to award money.

Lastly, steem is an open platform which means your contributions are not locked in to any company.

On steemit you can make money.

Good point

Because the incentivization model will make people compete creating the most valuable content to the benefit of all mankind. Others will compete to be the fastest ones to sort quality posts from nonsense, which will also add lots of value to all readers. Money is a powerful incentive.

because its decentralized

Ehhhh , not so fast there. I'm pretty sure it's centralized, no in fact I'm positive it's centralized as was demonstrated earlier today. ;)

If you want a decentralized social media platform download the Qora client.

Looks nice. But when you can do same thing in a browser, why bother downloading a client?

I'm no tech wizard so I'll state it in terms I understand. Qora runs in your browser, just like Steemit, but you need the client running for the decentralization. The client has a menu option to open up your browser and establish a connection to the blockchain, and everything after that is browser based while the client runs in the background. You can even make the client run as a background service.

If you have more technical questions, it would be best to contact Vrontis or one of the other devs in Qora's slack channel or BTT thread.
