Curator Awards: Reaction Based & Share Tools with Tracking

Cogito ergo sum.

"I think therfore I am."
René Descartes

The issue of how to measure and award content curators, contributors, and voters is a very critical component to the success of Steemit.

After considering the possibility of various solutions I realized the current method of measurement and the ones being considered are missing an important component of the contributors vote: The emotional reaction.

"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Sir Isaac Newton

Your mood changes your habits. Most of us know that Facebook introduced reactions to posts. I would guess that the data collected is used to identify opinions or feeling about posts so that ads can be displayed at the best opportunity or intensity. I would think they could also guage a friends influence on you based off a pattern of reactions.

Reaction Based Voting

By using a reaction based voting system combined with a pattern matching algorithm we can determine the real value of content. Rather than having a limited binary set of "up" or "down" for content we now have complex and exciting data! The specific interest, voting patterns, and how to apply them towards rewards is enhanced tremendously. This system could adjust the voting power based on merit, knowledge, interest, and your reputation within your community. For example, if a member down voted a curators post about invisible cars but has little to no reputation from the community regarding cars or invisibility that vote would weigh very little. However, if said person caugh @ned has a history of positive reactions based on previous posts and comments regarding invisibility and/or AMC Gremlin X vehicles his "positive" reaction and voting power would most absolutely have a higher weight.

Whale watching, not harpooning.

When combining various reaction types, Steem Power, and a vetting we can now diminish the reward given to the bot. The bot will be unable to react to posts or comments appropriately or the bot will not have enough of a positive reputation to receive a "whale" earned reward.

Anyone can "Rise to the Top"

The final and very important benefit to putting this system in place is that anyone can enjoy the benefits of Steemit by captivating their own audience and producing content people value which in turn offers a fair opportunity to earn rewards.

Please leave your questions and comments below. Let me know what you think! Thank you!

Excellent article!

I love your point about Facebook advertising and reactive voting, I can't believe I didn't think of that! Its so obvious now you mention it :)

What I would say though, is if a bot can detect reactive posting, then all you have to do is set it to cycle through 2 emotions for each post, say happy and sad. Then you would have a bot cycling through, angry and wow! I think there's one more emotion, if so have a bot for that.

The bots would be right enough of the time to game the system, i think.

Thanks cryptogee! Could we use unlabled images identifiable by hash ids only? The bot wouldn't know which one to select correctly. Eventually it would lose all voting power due to selecting heavily weighted reactions very inappropriately.

Another idea is to split the images in half and requiring the user to match each side in order to receive the reward after reacting/voting.

The split idea is good I think, as long as it didn't take more than a second for a human to do.

The hash ids I don't think work because a bot could still use the same method of choosing one or two randomly and still get it right some of the time. Perhaps a low tolerance algorithm could be programmed in to stop that...
