On August 23rd it was one year since the introduction of @steemcleaners. And what a year it has been for us!

Did you know @steemcleaners is one of the oldest running community initiatives, even pre-dating community groups such as Curie?

We want to thank the community for the support they have given us the past year. A special thanks goes out to @arhag for his recent delegation. We also want to thank everyone who takes the time to stop by and upvote our posts as well as those who drop by steemit.chat to report abuse.

Growing pains.
@cheetah
@cheetah has been a busy kitty cat. The operating costs have increased, just as the number of users posting daily has increased. @cheetah now posts daily logs to help offset the $100+ per day operation costs. Please consider upvoting her logs to help keep her running!

Community Presence
Recent developments forced @steemcleaners to ask some supporters to not up-vote our daily logs to keep them off the trending page. Read some of the discussion between @transisto and @anyx here.

Beginning in May we had upvotes from 250+ members of the community on each post. Sometimes posts received up-votes from 350-400 members of the community.

Since July 10th we have made an effort to keep the reports off the trending page to avoid having them downvoted, and while this has succeeded, it has also had some negative effects for both the community & @steemcleaners.

Visibility
There are new users that have no clue who we are or what we do as a group. They are surprised to find our comments on their posts and don't see us a 'voice' representing the community. Users who don't know about #steemitabuse are floundering looking for support to tackle abuse on their own. Many resorting to writing posts that are not being seen.

Funding
The goal of @steemcleaners is not profit. Payouts received from posts and comments serve two purposes.

Steem Power received gives our downvotes weight.
SBD received is redistributed to the community:
SP is awarded to those who find and report abuse to @steemcleaners
SBD is paid out to members of @steemcleaners who spend hours every day working to log reports, find abuse, monitor chat, and deter abuse.
Members of our group work long hours -- effectively full time jobs -- and the rewards they receive are substantially less than what they deserve for the hours they contribute to this project. Additionally, the entire community is able to receive the same (or even more!) rewards, should you help out.

If you appreciate what we do, consider visiting the blogs of individual members listed at the end of the post, and showing your support. Several of our members are running as witnesses, please consider voting for them here!

Keep in mind you have 10 full powered votes per day: consider using just 1 of the 10 to help combat abuse, whether it be by downvoting plagiarists, or by upvoting our posts or comments so we can better help serve the community. All of the reward is being distributed to anyone fighting abuse!

Self Voting
With the loss of support from the community we are currently self-upvoting comments at 2% and @adm has graciously chipped in to upvote at 1.5%. “Self voting” is sometimes considered controversial, however, keep in mind that the “self” that is receiving this reward is actually anyone in the community fighting abuse -- it could even be you getting the reward, should you help.

We are actively looking for alternate means of supporting this project (and if you have ideas, feel free to comment below). Until then we will continue as we have; the alternative isn't something we would like to think about.

Delegation
Have some Steem Power you aren’t using and want to help keep Steemit Clean? No delegation is too small!

Looking To The Next Year
Updating the Abuse Guide
In the next week or two we will be posting an updated Abuse Guide to incorporate the changes that have taken place in the community and within @steemcleaners.

The Spaminators (@spaminator)
The Spaminators was formed with the help of other members of the community and @patrice. They will be working proactively to discourage comment spam. @steemcleaners is working with The Spaminators and @steemcleaners will still be taking reports of comment spam from the community.

Introducing #ask-patrice
You can find the #ask-patrice channel on Discord. Have questions about @steemcleaners, @spaminator, or other abuse? Need advice on how much to quote or formatting? Ask @patrice!

Questions will be responded to as @patrice is available.

Active @steemcleaners
We’ve added two new members to the ranks. Please bear with them as they learn the ropes! Welcome @logic & @neuromancer!
