@ned in Korea: some insight and video breakdown
Here is the video of @ned joining the Gopax Meetup in Seoul korea
Most of it is in Korean but you can find the speach of @ned at minute 45:30 and at the end there is also a Q&A but I just lifted out the questions where I could and transcribed Neds answer as best I could. They should be representative of what he said but if you want I added the timestamps for each question.
video @ned speach 45:30 - 1:09:00
panel questions :
- what was best thing in your career with Steem?(1:46:31)
the growth of the Korean community (jokingly, but then more serious) that the communities are important and how the dynamic of communities works.
right now Korea is inspiring me
- what would be worries and pitfalls for the future (1:53:00)
original goal, reward content with crypto, the better the content the more reward. It works to some degree. We know what needs to be done, we need more experiments and SMT will provide this. Through these experiments there will be in the end one that succeeds in rewarding in a egalitarian way. There will be more jobs created in crypto online and I want to be part of this process.
- what can we do to mainstream the steem concept (2:00:30)
first thing to do is clear the bottlenecks like signups, changes to the blockchain that might need a hardfork HF20 as proposed by steemit inc, better coordination tools, filters, communities similar to subreddits, so take away barriers to growth. Main thing is onboarding better and improving retention.
- Since SMT are run on Steem blockchain can they be autonomous?(2:10:56)
We have to draw a comparison and take ERC20 tokens as an example and I find that SMT tokens are more first class then any ERC20 out there. The reason is bandwidth rate limiting so there do not have to be transaction fees. The governance of Steem provides security and stability and is able to scale. And on top Steem is application specific stack and adapt the blockchain to supplement and adapt to the SMT's. This will enable the ability to create first class tokens.
- no translated question but " how to use Steem for marketing" (2:17:34)
if you want more traction on our article there is a possibility to pay to get to the trending page and as such more views.
- what to do on developers who want to contribute. (2:22:16)
join our discord to get in touch with Steemit.inc devs, a lot of newbies get lost and need on-boarding, and in some way we are doing OK but there is room for improvements
- where is the view counter?
feature that was taken of the chain because it was bloating the system. If it comes back it will be done correctly and needs some development.
- not sure about question but: how do decentralized crypto and centralized business mix? (2:34:25)
The aim is that existing online business can continue centralized but can integrate a decentralized coin to reward the user for their data. Important is integrity for the user and consumer safety. Most applications will be hybrid and will require middle ware. Decentralization will mix with traditional and generate hybrid solution.
- What have you learned in Korea?
the understanding seems to be a lot greater here then in other countries looking at the informed questions I am getting here.
- Lots properties of Steem stem from @Dan Larimer, will he be back as CTO?
NO
Those was the interview and speech, next is just a small observation on my part
Even though there was a lot of stuff that is already know there was one thing that took my attention.
It seems that the team at Steemit inc are not oblivious to the situation that is going on on the Steem Blockchain. My personal feeling is that until they can release SMT there is nothing much they can do to stop voting abuse, circle jerking, bot systems. As can be seen on the screenshot (I highlighted in Yellow) there seems to be a vision to take away the weight based voting and go to one person one vote system. If this would be implemented then this would in one fell sweep take away a lot of the abuse and would also take care of the bot upvotes.
Now how it would work practically with the distribution of the vote pot is beyond me but it does look like an interesting concept.
Will this be implemented with the hardfork or will this be an option for SMT's and will some coins on the Steem blockchain have this feature is a question for later.
Hello felander,
I was able to find this post and also, starting now, I am following you because I see you are a supporter and reviewer for Smartsteem which I used every day.
Also, I am resteeming this post because you have written the subject about Ned visiting South Korea, my birth country.
cool, thanks for following me and the resteem...
Even will all the problems the platforms have and what we can do to improve the situation. In the meantime, I have a good feeling about the SMT and my trust on @ned to bring the vision to the reality.
My gut feeling tells me Steemit is here to stay and is going to make a big difference in the world.
lets hope your gut feeling is the right one
I strongly agree what you show to a steemit friend
you agree with what?
