This was like a year ago, I stopped playing not long after I did this writeup. The game that is hot for making steem right now is Drug Wars (here's my referal link if you sign up!) https://drugwars.io/i/phreakerx
Disclaimer: I wrote a post on them but the issue I was having seems to be resolved as of now. I am probably negative(steem) at this point but it is fun and you don't have to spend steem if you don't want to.
