Ever done something for 80 straight weeks? I've analyzed and posted my Steem growth!

in #steem5 years ago

Welcome to the 80th weekly installment of my series on Steem income and growth!

Income on the Steem blockchain is generated by "investment" (the more currency you have, the more you earn) and by "work" (earning currency by contributing content that adds value). All my crypto holdings are in the STEEM currency. Now I'm working to earn more, by uploading unique valuable content to the blockchain.

Calculating weekly income

Considering income from accounts that I own, that my wife @MediKatie owns, and group projects using our funds (currently @greatesteem, @hempy, @girlsofgreen, @sativazeee, & @vantocan), here's the running tally:

Average weekly growth (last 10 weeks): +59.8 Steem (+2.76%)

Without 3Speak income, and post-HF21, my rate of growth has slumped to below 1%. The 10 week average is declining.

If my team's funds were in a single account, it would be the 4185th richest. We'd been moving up at least 50 positions per week, but lately we're barely holding ground against the rest of the pack.

My curator income is about 5 STEEM per week, which is about twice what it was before the latest hard fork. This small boost is offset by a huge loss in creator income.

Not in the club

It appears that I'm not in the club of people whose posts usually make at least $10, thereby gaining extra money from other creators. Am I jealous, bitter? Maybe. Would that be inappropriate? I feel that I put out some of the best content on the blockchain, consistently year after year, and I've lost a lot of money doing so. Seeing other people get paid for far less effort/expertise/input sucks. It's also more evidence showing me the blockchain isn't working as intended, and good content still isn't being found and rewarded. No matter how much the insiders cheer "NewSteem", the fact is most of us aren't in their club, can't make anything from our efforts here, and aren't even being seen organically since the trending page is still garbage.

I put five grand and 2+ years of full time work in here, but somebody can waltz in with $400 and buy a position larger than mine? With it, they can cancel out every vote I gave with an equal vote in the opposite direction. That means it only costs $400 and 5 minutes to neutralize my $5000 and 2 year investment, silence my voice, hide my posts etc. As the price continues to plummet, that $400 will become $100, then $20, then $3, and so on. A declining market like this makes investment unwise, and creation unprofitable except to the insiders.

Today's added-value content is this image of an osprey (and trout) in flight over British Columbia. The photographs were taken from my family's cabin on a small lake in the mountains. I edited two together to form this image. What a powerful hunter! The little fish never had a chance.

This data is very encoruaging, first because you represent someone committed and second because you are actually seeing returns.

Im not 100% clear on my gains but I'm definitely stacking steem. Just need to stay active and avoid slothfulness cause lately I've been inactive.

Thanks for your comment.
If you have time, I encourage you to consider keeping some data. It can be useful.
Inactive periods are okay, I think, to allow us to recharge and gather ideas for posts and projects :)

Osprey are interesting birds indeed. Their hunting skills are impressive and they're quite pretty to look at. They probably catch more fish than a lot of fishermen. Check out those eyes!

We've dabbed every week for 80 weeks straight, not a single interruption or delay..... does that count?! LOL

Haha, that absolutely counts!
On a serious note, I think more people should keep and post their growth data.

They should, yes. Luckily @DRutter takes care of ours, cuz we girls aren't the best at math/stats. :D

Don't feel bad about not being in the club. From what I've seen, less than 1% of the active users here are able to get such treatment.

Maybe it is time for a break from the blockchain..... walk away for a while and put effort into something else, which will bear fruit... if Steem comes back to life we can always brush off the accounts and keep going.

Why don't you hedge your bets. Why be exclusive to Steem/Steemit?
