No Pride Here

in #steem7 years ago

Frequently people enjoy basking in the spotlight of success. Whenever I observe someone accepting applause for their work, I fear for their future. Pride comes before a fall. a1drjohnthumb.JPG

Usually success is more coincidental. My awareness of Steemit and my participation here is a matter of luck more than talent. Comparing my results with those who joined at about the same time shows me at the back of the pack. There is no pride here.

Steemit farming is a job. We plant seeds. We hope they grow. Slowly we gain in reputation, but this is a result of persistence rather than talent. There are others who try to snatch value from others: poachers. Success comes eventually after repeating the sowing process day in and day out. The value comes from the blockchain.

The Steem blockchain is beautifully fertile farm land. The potential for growth is semi-automatic. Again, there is no pride here.

I feel fortunate to recognize the potential of our environment. Many others can't fathom the riches surrounding us. Vision is a gift. I didn't develop it: it just is. Again, there is no pride here.

Pride is an illusion of self worth. I don't want any part in it. Should a plant be proud of her bloom? Should a farmer be proud of his seed?

Here is today's beauty.

This makes more sense than anything I've read on this platform today.

You liken steemit to a farm which we plant our seeds hoping that they grow bring forth a good harvest. But then, you talked about persistence and that's really caught my attention and I'll explain it.

Using the farm as an example, I understand that if a farmer plants his seeds and expect to harvest bountifully without hardwork and persistence, he'll fail. So how does he not fail? He plants good seeds (good contents) on good and fertile soil (steem blockchain), he waters the seeds and plants (interact with the post, replies and upvote comments) and takes out the weeds (could be avoiding plagiarism and spam from the farm to enable the crops or seeds to grow well. He continues checking on his farm to make sure they're not overrun by weeds, pests and wild animals and he does everything possible to keep his farm in good condition.

That's the mindset I got from your post.

Pride is a bad thing that no one should develop the habit of it. Pride goes before the fall - so they say.

Thanks @doctorjohn for this post. It's an eye opening post. Hopefully, everyone gets to learn one or two things from it.

Happy Steeming

u are right,, steemit is like farming land,, we need to work hard on the platform in order to succed

Really nice post john

I agree with you. I'm still a beginner. it takes perseverance to succeed

Thanks john for information,
Its a tips and motivation to me @doctorjohn

i see you once time but now i see you again and again because your
post is so nice keep it up dear @DoctorJohn

from every series you say @doctorjohn, I am always proud to hear it, you are right we must work hard to achieve a success

Honestly, I think the others that are ahead of you aren't there because they deserve to be, but because they know how to play the Steemit game (politics) in it's current form.

One thing I "envy" (maybe not envy maybe admire is the better word) about your posts is that you're consistent, quality, and you've found your niche. You may be slower to finish the race, but I dare say you'll blow all of us "sprinters" out of the water when it comes to the marathon of consistent quality content one day.

Keep up the great work/content. Comparing yourself to others can be frustrating, but I try and use it as a tool to set my sites on.

@doctorjohn, you are an endless hole of wise words.
I get confused when people look down on others because of how much they think they achieved more than others. The truth is that there is nothing we own that we didn't receive. So why be too proud? Pride indeed comes before a fall

Really insightful.. Thanks for sharing
