What are the benefits or drawbacks of delegating Steem Power?

Personally, I have been delegating steem power to multiple community projects, and in the early days when I have little Steem power, I did not realized delegated too much of a steem power would make me crippled, unable to vote, unable to post, unable to leave comment. I need to wait for a painful 7 days to get my SP back. This is one of the major drawback when people has small steem power and still delegate out. Let's get down to business.

## Advantage  of delegation

* Delegate to upvote service allow us to collect profit

* Delegate to community project may help us get an upvote from the community. The current hot cake is @steem-ua

* Delegate to new account may earn you a life time follower should you sponsored a good blogger

* Delegate to community support may earn a share from beneficiaries, @actifit for example.

# There are many more. But I would like to emphasize on the less healthy side of over delegation:

## Disadvantage of delegation

* Over delegated to upvote service, our own upvote worth nothing. What will people think when they look at our wallet? Aint like we have 3000 and delegated 2950 out and leave 50 to upvote other people with 0.000$ is consider good enough? People might just return you an upvote with 0.000 as well.

* When @steem-ua newly introduced, immediately I chuck in 250sp and hope for 7 upvotes a week. Guess what, after a week I found myself doing garbage posts. I rushed myself to produce something so I can get an upvote. Trust me, if we're not ready to do that or already doing more than 7 posts a week, I do not recommend it. May be 100sp for 4 upvotes a week is good enough?

* Before HF20, I created several accounts for friends and family with my own Steem and delegations. At this point of time, only 1 of them are surviving. I've wasted those amount of SP delegation time sitting in those new accounts and they're not producing anything either to the community, to me, nor to the blockchain.

* Sometimes people go for leasing short term to earn bigger interest. The problem is, every lease ended, during the time of collection, those SP will be in the cool down period of 5 days(after HF20, before was 7 days). If someone did one week delegation, the following week will have a 5 days cooling off period. If does that all year long, probably only 30 weeks out of 52 are effectively collecting return. How is that a good deal?

# Last but not lease, steem power are meant for influential as stated in the wallet. When one have little SP, they don't easily earn respect from others. I hope my little contribution helps.

Instead of delegating, why not sell a vote if your after a few profit.

Sometimes I did that too, but I had set my threshold at 99%. Which means I will only sell my votes when there's nothing to vote at all for the next few hours. Other time, I'm upvoting and manually curating.

there's some that offer bigger returns but personally i prefer holding on to my sp for my own use :)
i need every bit to support back my supporters, no matter how small it may be 😆

Exactly. As I said in the post, unless you spam and self vote. Otherwise won't make it back. All the reward here in Steemit are from the reward pool. Given anyone time someone make a huge upvote, chances are it will drain from our existing post payout.
