This is so funny, I've encountered a very similar situation actually. I've recently seen a thread on the Bitcointalk forum, where someone was asking about the best platform to build a dApp on. No one seems to even consider Steem as a good platform.
I mentioned it straight away and gave some examples of successful dApps. Great that you're basically approaching it the same way.

It's small bits of promotions like this that will help Steem in the long run.
Many think Steem is just a (ONE!) blogging platform... That it's a developers paradise and playground is just NOT something that we're known for and that's a huge missed opportunity.

Indeed! Time to get these misconceptions out of there and start promoting Steem for what it really is: a full-fledged dApp platform that can be used by anyone! Really, if people just knew how easy it was to join this amazing community, they would be standing in line to join.
Seriously thinking of just going full-ham on this and write thousands of these sorts of posts, all with the same quality as the example I've presented here of course.
Awesome - maybe people will start to wake up. It's all about educating people and word-of-mouth will do the rest :-) I've been working on getting my personal trainer to start using @actifit, without explaining too much to him how Steem the Blockchain works.
