How does one go about calculating the Steem market cap?

in #steem8 years ago

Is there an article out there that explains the best way to do it?

Steem in the backend has STEEM, VESTS and Steem Dollars.

I understand how to calculate the value of all liquid Steem by multiplying the current price of one Steem by existing supply. How does one calculate the value of VESTS/Steem Power.

And what about Steem Dollars. Should those be subtracted from the market cap since they are a liability/debt to the Blockchain?

Thoughts? Links? Comments? Debates?

Hey @cob, are you going to give a MUSE update? It's long overdue.

Absolutely good point! What's going on with MUSE update? People are waiting for years

me too.

According to coinmarketcap.com Steem currently has 235,122,929 shares in circulation at a value of $1.61 and a total market cap of $378,032,996.

If you want to calculate the market cap of Liquid steem, take the amount of steem in existance * the % of the stake that is currently active.

Steem dollars should for sure be included since they are worth about 1$ of steem.

But SD are a debt of 1$ worth of stock (steem)

They are convertible notes. Shouldn't they be SUBTRACTED from the market cap? Just like they are with start-ups.

According to the coinmarketcap.com, there is no separate capitalization, only SBD price 0.91USD representing. The steemd.com displays: current_sbd_supply = 2,128,591.240 SBD
