My UX Design Wishlist for STEEMIT Main Page

in #steem9 years ago

This is my 5th day as a #steemian or #steemitian or #watchamacallit. I have enjoyed every bit of time I have spent browsing through the contents posted by members, upvoting, commenting, and of course seeing my wallet moving lazily and gaining some bit of #steem.

However, as I go through skimming and maneuvering my way around #steemit interface, I can't help but notice that at some point the information I want to see are not readily available until I have to click a link and be brought to another web page.

I don't want to sound bias here. I'm a Facebook user for so long and I have been accustomed to FB's user interface. I have seen changes and improvements on its #UXdesign and I must say most of the changes made my user-experience easier.

I know #steemit is in its infancy and regardless of that fact, I also love the simplistic approach in the UX design. But simplicity sacrifices some vital UX design and the longer I use #steemit, the more I ache for a better user experience. So, here's my #wishlist for #steemit #UXdesign and although I am hoping for all these things to come into fruition, I will be patiently waiting for these things to happen.

So here's my list. And please forgive me if I use Facebook UI/UX as my baseline:

NEWSFEED (or what you call it in steem?)

I'd like to be able to play videos right in the newsfeed with having to click on the post. Yeah, just like FB. I also like to see multiple lines of "intro text" of the post right there on the newsfeed. Currently, #steemit displays a one-liner intro-text which I believe the guys at #steemit want to stick to the minimalist approach of things.

The reason why I want to see more than just a line is because I want to be able to know what to expect to read from the post before I decide to dive deeper. This will also allow me to evaluate the post before I #upvote

INTEGRATED CHAT

If I were to chat and read posts at the same time, I will have to switch to another website. I will also have to register separately using a different user account.

POSTS NOTIFICATIONS

I'd like to know if @masteryoda submitted a new post. Has @roelandp made an interesting post today? I want to know what my friends in #steemit are sharing to the community without having to refresh my browser from time to time or to select "new" category on the upper left side of the page.

USER PROFILE

I find it helpful as I upvote posts to know who the author is without clicking the user account link. Call me lazy but I know right-clicking and opening a new tab to display the author's profile will do the job. But it does take me away from the main page. I want to be able to see the user/author profile just by hovering my mouse over the user account name. This way, I can move along with the other posts.

RECENT POSTS IN CATEGORIES LIST

I am not interested in all the categories in #steemit. I only read those that interest me. Maybe browse a category or two outside my interest sphere at some point. But I would like to see the number of posts I have left unread or have not read yet. This will also help me to know if there are any new post in my interest list of categories. This should save me some time to spend clicking into categories list just to know if there are new posts.

Like I mentioned above, #steemit seems to settle with the minimalist design approach. And I have no problem with that. But I do want my user experience to be as fruitful and productive as possible.

This is just me.

I just have to wait what's gonna happen next with #steemit UX Design.

These are good ideas that I'd like to see. Like, you mentioned in your post, Stemmit is so young, I'm sure in the future many of these options will be implemented.

Hopefully the #steemit guys make this happen sooner rather than later. Appreciate you also commenting on my post. Means a lot. Thanks.

As you say, it's only a matter of time. Keep writing!

I agree with these things you mention. And I also find it hard to see WHO just followed me, the list will be longer and harder to manage soon.

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 6.7 and reading ease of 79%. This puts the writing level on par with Stephen King and Dan Brown.
