Steemit's Blogging Difficulty: 0.74% Winning Posts!steemCreated with Sketch.

A few months ago I published an index I use to figure out how difficult it is to obtain a “winning post” on Steemit. You can look at the concept and the formula on the original post but the idea is simple enough: The index will give you the difficulty of having a post that earns more than 100 SBD on rewards in a 24 hour period.

Let’s remember the formula:

Total Posts = Total Amount of posts in a 24-hour period
Winning Posts = Posts that made more than 100 SBD in rewards.
TP / WP = Blogging Difficulty

Last time I checked Steemit’s Blogging Difficulty Index (SBDI) was of 146.347, which meant that 0,68% of all posts on Steemit were “winning posts”.

Today, despite the low price of Steem it is actually more likely for you to get a winning post than 4 months ago, why? – well there are not many people posting, only 807 authors yesterday and 6 of them surpassed the 100 SBD barrier.

807/6 = 134.5 SBDI
0.74% Winning Posts.

So if you feel discouraged about the low payouts, just think that you have more chances of making good money now than you did when steemit was pumping. Of course, the difference is that today most of your “regular” posts will only get a couple of cents.

This is pretty interesting! This is a cool way to encourage people to keep posting despite the lower value.

Anyway, I don't really think a random user has a 0,74 % chance to have a winning post. Some posters get a winning post on every single post, so the possibility for an unknown poster to get a winning post is probably a lot lower than this number.

Yes of course, having a winning posts depends on a lot of factors: how many followers you have, your ability to write and present your content, etc.

This index can basically give you an idea of how difficult it is to make it trending, but it is not by far something exact.

Thanks for your comment!

Yea, exactly. It would be cool if it was possible to calculate the chance of getting a winning post for the first time or something like that, but the math to calculate that would probably be very complicated.

hehe yeah probably.. I actually think that the chances of getting a winning post in your first post are close to 0% unless you are someone famous or a really really reallyyy good looking girl! lol

Hehe, yea, but I have seen a lot of the introduceyourself posts that have gotten a pretty decent payout lately, so it is from from impossible these days :P

i hardly see 100 SBD posts this days but good catch on the actual %s

I actually said similar things to people recently ---- and still without a whale vote....most of my posts as a non techy person here but doing the best I can -- make about 20¢ -- and get very few votes and views and comments.

TY for making this post, I have contemplated giving up many times and I try to add value and encouragement to this community. It bothers me a lot.

Again, have a good 2017
