I agree - but it does matter as an indication that a number of people showed interest in the article or story (or photo).
I do not think you will know what I am speaking of, but as a child I used to read a mag from the UK called Eagle. It was comics, with series like Dan Dare. The art style of your avatar reminds me of those comics (I mention it, because it makes me feel a bit nostalgic for a period 65 years in my past...)
