Working out your Post Reward SBD/STEEM/SP Split

With the price of STEEM falling quite hard over the past few months, and SBD heading down toward the $1 USD mark, our posts have been paying out in all of SBD, STEEM, and STEEM POWER due to the SBD/STEEM Debt Ratio climbing. But how do work out what this split will be?

Your exact post rewards calculation is a very complicated algorithm, based on the timing of each of your upvotes in the first 30 minutes, and then 75% of the upvote values after the 30 minute mark.

For example, receiving a $2 upvote exactly 3 minutes after submitting your post will get you 75% of the vote value PLUS 90% of the remaining 25% value, which would usually go to the curation pool if the vote was made after 30 minutes.

For simplicity, we'll work on your post rewards as being the minimum reward of 75% of the total upvote value (all upvotes are assumed to have been received after 30 minutes), and the rewards split option set to 50% Liquid rewards (SBD and STEEM)/50%SP.

Let's take an example of your total post reward being $60 (..we can all dream!!!). 75% of that reward will be $45. Now comes the Maths...

We'll work backwards from $ into STEEM UNITS (STU). At this time the STEEM Price feed is $1.30, so your $45 equates to $45/$1.30 = 34.615 STU.

Now we work out the easy part: 50% of 34.615 STU, or 17.307 STEEM is rewarded as STEEM POWER (SP). You get 17.307 SP.

Now we move on to the more complicated liquid rewards.

Your liquid rewards are calculated taking into account the SBD Print Rate, which is determined by the SBD/STEEM Debt ratio; That is the percentage of the total STEEM supply being held in the form of SBD. Between 0 and 2% debt ration, 100% of your liquid reward is paid in SBD. Once the debt ratio goes above 2%, the print rate moves down from 100%, eventually reaching 0% when the debt ratio reaches 5%. At this point all liquid rewards are paid 100% in STEEM. We are currently sitting in the 2% to 5% debt ratio area, and so our rewards are being split according to how close to 5% the debt ratio is. I have made a table to show print rates here. It's too long to include in this post, but here is where we're at now:

How is the debt ratio and SBD Print Rate calculated?

The formula for the Debt Ratio (DR) is: DR = SBD SUPPLY / (STEEM Supply + ( SBD Supply/Feed Price))

The formula for the SBD Print Rate (PR) is: PR = (5-DR)/3

Now, back to calculating the liquid reward split. Remember the platform always calculates 1 SBD = $1 USD when working out rewards or print rates and debt ratios, and NOT the market price of SBD.

The remaining 17.307 STU is split between SBD and STEEM based on the SBD Print Rate, and caluclated at the price of 1 SBD = $1.

  • At the time of writing up this post, the debt ratio is sitting at about 4.2% (rounded up) : 15,285,667 SBD / (270,615,303*$1.30 + 15,285,667 SBD) = 4.16%
  • The print rate of SBD will therefore be (5 - 4.2)/3 = 26.6667%.
  • This means that 27% of the liquid author reward will be paid out in SBD

That will look like this:

  • SBD Reward = 27% * (17.307 * 1.30) = 6.075 SBD.
  • Your STEEM portion is therefore the remaining 73% of 17.307 STU = 12.634 STEEM.

Your reward payout will therefore look something like this:

6.075 SBD, 12.634 STEEM, and 17.305 STEEM POWER for .....

And that is how the rewards are calculated.... Simple hey!!

STEEM Supply, SBD Print Rate and price feed figures were looked up on steemd.com, and will have changed by now, but the ratios and calculations should fit in to your post rewards fairly closely. Again, this is based on a 75% / 25% post reward author/curation split, and your actual payout splits may vary according to the timing of upvotes on your posts. This should still give you a pretty close approximation of how your pending post rewards will be split.

In summary, here's are some quick formulas to help you work out your reward splits:

  • SBD/STEEM debt ratio (DR %) = SBD Supply / ( (STEEM supply * Feed Price) + SBD Supply)*100

  • SBD Print Rate (PR %) = (5-DR)/3)*100 (or just get is off steemd.com

  • SBD Reward = Post Reward $ value * 0.375 * PR / 100

  • STEEM Reward = Post Reward $ Value * 0.375/STEEM Feed Price * (100-PR) / 100

  • STEEM POWER Reward = Post Reward $ Value *.375/ STEEM Price feed

Now that we're all completely confused, head over to my STEEM MONSTERS RAFFLE, and get some tickets to win my card collection.. only a few hours left!!

Haha, and that's just scratching the surface of this web of numbers and algorithms.

i wish i could understand the maths in this post, it's so sad that i failed mathematics in school.

Maths isn't for everyone. I quite enjoy figuring number things out. If we can make anything confusing enough, fewer people will be able to say you're wrong😂😂😂

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

The print rate of SBD will therefor be (5 - 4.
It should be therefore instead of therefor.
