Frustrations of getting a new account!!!!

I have been trying for over a month now to get an account for my wife, using the normal Steemit process. As you may gather from this post, no success. We go through all the steps until the "this application will be reviewed" message and then.... SILENCE
Two week ago I tried again. First I got a message that the phone number was already used, a second time it would allow me to continue.
And then the same result, no account created, and if I mention Steemit to my wife she gets quite upset.
I then decided to try another approach, using the busy.org (or actually steemconnect) solution.
But, they only accept Steem or a combination of Steem and Steem Power.
Converting Steem Dollars to Steem Power. Takes 3.5 days and was not enough, I need an additional 3.2 Steem. So let's do another convert, I don't know if this will be enough, you don't know how many Steem you receive for your Steem Dollars.
This is getting f***ing frustrating, it shouldn't be this hard to have someone join Steem, should it??
I read somewhere that you can use the combination Steem+Steem Power, with delegated Steem Power? It sounds strange but if that's true can someone help me out?
Hi @blevley, Besides the fact that I love the image you used here, I am sorry you are having such a hard time opening an account for your wife.
I hear that many people have multiple accounts, so it shouldn't be that hard, or so I thought.
Here are a couple of suggestions:
1- Have you tried to change the phone number?
2- Try the market to exchange the SBD to steem. Rates changes but they appear there so you can tell what you are getting. While the exchange through the block trades site (I imagine you used this to exchange?) gives you less steem for your SBD (I think).
3- Go to steem chat and ask there. Maybe someone can help you.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. @utfull is already helping me, so my wife will be happy 2day.
It should be easy to get another account, but if you search for it, there are a lot of people having the same issue.
Changing the phone number would be okay if I had another mobile number available. Since I don't it's not an option. I know I can use some websites where you can receive texts via a browser, but it's always a questionmark if they work properly.
The exchange was brought to my attention yesterday as well, so I was already convert SP to Steem.
While this exchange is quicker, I'm not sure if the rates are really good, anyway it's something for the next time.
And steem.chat is in my opinion only useful if you want to communicate with someone you already know.
There is no structure there, no directory which channels exist and what they're for.
And why do you need to re-register? This should just use the normal Steem credentials, so you're sure that the person you're talking to is really the same person as on Steemit.
I think a post like this is the best option in my case, not only to express my frustration, but also to raise awareness about faults in the sign-up process. Hopefully the new hardfork will resolve these issues.
I am glad to hear that you are getting help from @utfull. It is also another proof that Steemit is full of nice people :)

And you're right, so far I encountered a lot of nice people, I could get used to that ;-)
I had the same issues, so annoying! I don't know why it's not working properly. It not registering your account, but when you try with the same phone number and email it says it has been used! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Shit programming!

I understand that they are trying to make sure (most) spam accounts are stopped before they appear, but waiting over a month is ridiculous.
This will definitely be a huge problem for new users to join Steemit.
I could setup the CLI_wallet solution, having been an IT guy for over 40 years now, but I don't want to. It means creating a complete solution just for one account.
I have been spreading the word about Steemit to alot of my friends and they are all struggling to create accounts. Not a very good first impression of the platform but I read that this should be sorted out in the next hard fork.

When I first created my account I didn't think about the approval process. I just let it be and surprisingly I got approved after a week.
