Developers, please check your apps

in #steem7 years ago

There are more and more apps appearing on the Steem blockchain. From alternative front-ends like busy.org (@busy.org) to tools to examine the blockchain, see when you get paid and much more.

You can find an overview on www.steemtools.com (@roelandp).

This is a great thing, it's what Steem is meant to accomplish.

However...

Requesting all developers.

If your app no longer functions, and you should know best, please contact @roelandp so he can remove you from the page.
I'm encountering quite a lot of apps which give an error message, this looks bad on steem and steemit as a whole.

Second request.

I would like to urge all devs to decide on one uniform way for users to login to the app you're developing. And by that I mean using the Steem login data.

Some apps, like steemit.chat en recently voopit.com, have their own registration method, separate from the normal Steem user account.

This means that there will be a number of accounts for a user on the blockchain, all depending on the app they're using. This is never a good thing.

Busy.org ( @busy.org) has created Steemconnect, which takes care of this issue.
So it would make sense to use this solution instead of creating a separate one every time.

Just to make sure everyone understands, I'm not complaining about your efforts, we really appreciate all you're doing.
But I see we're making the same mistakes again and again, while the solution is very simple.

All valid points.
a developer always looks to normalize or simplify while not repeating writing the same code in every new code block he will write this code ones in a function or procedure nice easy in one place to keep it easy to update.

So many coders so many ways to screw a lite bulb into steemit
There is no lead team pointing out best practice.
Steemit is very lonely and off for anybody new starting out.
If You happen to find a post with knowledge every veteran steemian knows by heart You are lucky.
You do not know what you don't know.
Be honest and admit, steemit has odd ways you need to get used to.

This post https://steemit.com/condenser/@timcliff/calling-community-developers-let-s-polish-the-steemit-com-mothership helped me a bit to understand the way it works better. I'm looking at the code now to see if I can familiarize me with it.

But anyone can join in the development, that's fun.
