RE: Write Something Useful & Stop Trying To Kiss The Whales' Asses For Money

in #steem8 years ago

Thank you for this post! Whales can see right through phony people and nobody wants fake admiration or begging. Innovative engaging content is what is valued. If everyone can create the content you posted, it probably won't get noticed. Think of what makes you unique and start from their and build your reputation from the ground up as someone with integrity. I understand frustration when everyone else is succeeding, but at the same time as I've said before the only reason people get upset is that they are comparing themselves. Steemit could have provided no monetary rewards and been just a blockchain social media network or capped rewards at five dollars and still be successful. If Instagram or Facebook is paying you even one cent I'd be surprised unless you are a celebrity endorsing products and that is unlikely. And you don't need thousands of followers like YouTube. Be great fun please and enjoy the community. At the very least you must realize how much more engaging comments are and people helping each other out. It's not often you see that anywhere else.

It's hard work, yes, but making megabucks here is luck of the draw.

Yes and no. Sometimes you are right and a random comment or silly meme can generate more than your well thought out post that you spent a while creating to receive a few cents. But a lot of posts that are gaining attention and Trending are firsts or something people want to bring attention to. Is a picture of marijuana posted worth thousands of dollars? No, but it shows that maybe a controversial topic can be discussed on this platform and may be the reason it was rewarded so heavily. Instead of someone writing about their first experience smoking, or an article on how to grow it or even an article that has an opposing viewpoint, people instead think all pictures of marijuana will garner lots of money so they get frustrated when they post the same type of content and aren't rewarded. People rarely value copycat type content, which is why a well thought out #introduceyourself post often garners a lot of support, because nobody can copy your personal story and people that enjoy the content you have written are more likely to view subsequent posts of yours. And I know the follow button is being worked on so if people want they can see their favorite posters in one feed.

I agree with your comment and from myself can add, that I think it'll change in some time, when the "blast" will wear off, so I believe in time steemit'll become of more high quality content. But even now it's full of really engaging stories and interesting and really useful articles, that's why I really like it here and am looking forward to have loads of great time here!

Exactly! The change on Tuesday will hopefully increase the quality of posts.
Issue #176

Each root level comment has a reward weight which impacts the end payout of the post. We are targeting 4 posts in 24 hours. Your first 4 posts in 24 hours will not be penalized. After that, they weight is decreased from 100% based on your average posting frequency. Having a frequency just barely higher than 1 every 6 hours will have very little impact, while spamming will be penalized heavily. This change is aimed to increase the quality of content at the cost of quantity.

The developers realize if people can post as often as the like, then steemit will the filled with throwaway content. Yes there are some funny memes and interesting links to YouTube articles, but if you have four posts that earn 100 percent, most people should focus on creating the most engaging content that is unique to them and cannot easily be copied. If the value of the content isn't inspiring or entertaining, steemit would become a less interesting place. Comments are not limited so engaging there will be important too.
