Cheetah helpful or a way for people to centralize the decentralized steem block-chain?

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I had some negative experience with the so called power-admin-whales-rulers-of-the-universe-all-almighty-and-powerful users behind cheetah. Demonetizing me twice for plagiarism and I know this was wrong and ridiculous, because I know how much effort I put into this but yeah a lost dollar here and there is not much reason for crying. The feeling of people deciding they can centralize a decentralized platform is the worrisome part. They can decide to demonetize whatever they decide under whatever pretense they see fit. Yet just a quick surfing through the "hot" articles reveals gems like this:

https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@kingscrown/get-paid-in-bitcoin-cash-to-use-torrents-joystream - currently "worth" 106$+

https://steemit.com/meme/@writesbackwards/stupid-hipsters - currently 50$+ (do a google search for the image to find it all over the place ... definitely an original content!!)

https://steemit.com/pizza/@ssjsasha/i-am-dying-to-have-this-volcano-pizza-but-not-only-is-it-expensive-but-it-is-around-a-30-minute-drive posted 3 hours ago, already "worth" almost 50$

https://steemit.com/cn/@lawrenceho84/good-morning-finally-market-is-bouncing-back-up "worth" 12$ so far (2 hours since posted). Images taken from internet with a few letters pasted on top of them

https://steemit.com/punchline/@kartiksingh/never - 2.43$, an internet image copy/pasted

and some look in the trending ones ...

https://steemit.com/steemit/@penguinpablo/weekly-steem-stats-report-monday-march-19-2018 copy/paste steemit stat report "worth" 111$+ so far

https://steemit.com/photography/@pinacle/mickey-mouse awesome "content" worth 107$+

https://steemit.com/meme/@writesbackwards/tinder-is-so-2017 "worth" more than 54$

So my question is since those regulators want to play regulators, why they don't take care for farce posts like the above. Posts that require almost no effort and bring almost no value?

So my question is what are your experiences with the so called moderators hiding behind cheetah and do you think their selective flagging does anything to restrict bs content or maybe steal from some people's efforts by demonetizing them at will with no repercussions whatsoever ....

@originalworks

Sort:

clearly not but i just learnt about it and decided to try

I did the same in one or two of my articles and got no results so was asking out of curiosity.

Good Luck with your account !

yeah no harm trying :)

Cheetah needs to be reworked. I seen it comment on a few post that it shouldn't have. Both on some of my articles and others.

I do allot of articles on new cryptocurrencies and ICO / bounty campaigns where you need to copy and paste certain things directly from the site while adding some fresh content. I usually get flagged by cheetah in those blogs. If you are quoting a web page and include the url to that web page then cheetah shouldn't be flagging your content imo.

cheetah should not be a bot at a first place. This should be done by a person (if needed) that can recognize a plagiarism content from content where the author made sure to work the article and make it presentable. A stupid cheetah bot would have no idea how much work goes into formatting an article, making your research, finding something useful to put, appropriate pictures to make it look eye pleasing and not just a line of wall and basically just because you share what somebody else have already wrote, doesn't mean presentation does not matter

There is nothing to re-work. Cheetah works just fine. There are occasional errors as she is 99.95% accurate.
She processes up to 2000 of comments each day so the margin of error is minimal.
She is also very expensive bot that costs about $300 per day to run. anyx pays up a lot from his own pocket to keep it running (cheetah blog doesn't earn enough to pay for this service) .

All she does is detecting similar content. There is no harm from being commented by cheetah.

There is harm because allot view a comment from cheetah as a negative thing. They see cheetah has commented and they simply by pass your article. On the other hand, if cheetah didn't comment you may have got a comment / upvote / resteem from the originally interested party.

There are also free restreem services on here that will exclude your article from being resteemed if cheetah has commented on your article.

The Cheetah bot also says it upvoted you when sometimes it doesn't.

For example .. If I am doing an article on a new crypto ICO / Bounty project, there are certain things I would need to copy directly from the site such as rules to each Bounty. Cheetah will flag such articles.

It will not flag such articles as long as you follow our advices on how to properly quote.

Unfortunately, we cannot help the ignorance of many users who are clueless about cheetah bot and make their own opinions about it, like as seeing it as something negative.

well let him save his money or invest them in something cause cheetah is anything but fine. I haven't seen it cleaning the space, on the contrary. Post where people spent hours to create are demonetized in a blink, while garbage as the posted above is not moderated in any way and is flooding the platform. Comparing my Appics article that was demonetized and the pizza article I bet that 99% of users will have more value in mine. It doesn't matter where I get the info from, I compiled it and presented it in a way that is presentable and gives all the information needed. I have put the effort to the the research, I have put the time to make it look good, I have put the time to market it, well I guess investing efforts is the wrong way of doing it on steemit and honestly, I see tit like 300 dollars down the drain everyday for zero contribution and when there is some, it's mostly negative as it drives people to stop creating content but making low quality articles and just paying the bots to double their money

Wow! This is great content! You have received a free upvote from the Minnows Freedom Project for being a good Steemian and posting original content. Благодаря!

This post has been resteemed and received 15% upvote. Thank you for using my free service @bebeomega!

It pissed me off that I was flagged but it was my own content and i frigging SOURCED MYSELF

yeah exactly my point. Genuine posts with lots of time invested in them are flagged and demonetized while total bs "articles" are making money bringing no value whatsoever to the steemit platform

Yeah Im not sure I will stay. It seems a mirror of the real world to me which sucks. Lots of good hard working nice folk doing the right thing, but lots of people being ignored when they deserve more and lots of superficial crap.

Could you, please provide the link(s) to your post where steemcleaners flagged you?

Sure. Here is one, where I ref an article and quote fromit

And here is the post where i say its from my old blog https://steemit.com/homesteading/@riverflows/smokin-fish

As you say they need human readers

yeah well done, those stupid bots are driving people away from steemit ... cudos! Very helpful!
