Manually Generated Cryptocurrency

I thinking about how to create an artwork that would incorporate cryptocurrency. I am not sure yet how Steem is generated but I don't think there is a complicated hash puzzle so solve.

Would it be possible to make a type of cryptocurrency that could be generated with an analog manual system? Perhaps a machine like a Babbage Difference Engine.

How would I verify that the calculation was in fact done by manual labor? This would force currency back hundreds of years to when manual labor was required to make a buck.

It would make an interesting interactive installation artwork that could illustrate how some cryptocurrencies work by turning electricity into a hash that has a monetary value. The machine could generate punch cards at the end and the participant in the artwork could exchange it for an online currency.

What would I call this currency? AdaCash cash perhaps.
