I understand and I am happy people stepped in and dealt with the content and hopefully they were reasonable and considerate in their response because there's always a line between necessary and unnecessary that easily gets crossed and could ruin any good that was done, but even if it wasn't a flag attack and it was a character attack, that still doesn't mean malicious attack is a better and more accurate description than something along the lines of someone made a [adjective for bad] post about me [my character] in that situation. There's no doubt that many will agree with you that it was indeed a malicious attack, but people in the community by and large are thoughtful and considerate people and will happily hear you out and join in if the words you use sharp, or are in line with what you're describing and aren't used as a megaphone to draw attention.
